If you've ever tried to give a dog a bath, you understand what a struggle it is. Most dogs really despise it, and it's a fight to get them in the tub and make them stay. Even after the bath, they are so dramatic about it, running around as if they're suffering, rubbing their faces on the carpet like little freaks. As the human in this interaction though, it's pretty adorable. Sophie Gamand recognized this and decided to devote a book of photography to wet dogs.  In the introduction of her book Wet Dog, Gamand writes, "There is no experience more humiliating for a dog than taking a bath. Each year, the city of Yulin, China, celebrates the Summer Solstice with a festival. And it’s not a festival until we’re slaughtering and eating dogs, right? (Wrong.) While this long-standing tradition of eating dogs is fading across China, it still remains a strong part of southern China’s culture. Not only have dogs become a treat, but the festival organizers have been accused for unnecessary cruelty and torture when cooking the dogs—and organizations like the Fight for Animal Cruelty Laws in China are fighting against the festival. So is this woman, Yang Xiaoyun. Read More
I love dogs. I say this sentence almost once a day in order to explain to someone why I need to pet a stranger’s dog on the street. I am especially prone to cuddle up old dogs with grey faces and sweet demeanors. My family has two old and gray pugs at home so I love giving old dogs a good squeeze on the street. Now you know why I’m tearing up at my desk in the BUST HQ looking at these pictures of old dogs that are also national heroes. Yeah, okay, that’s a lie. I’m full on crying at my desk and trying not to get tears on my laptop. Read More
Growing up is difficult for everyone, include puppies, but learning new things can also be deeply rewarding. Sometimes, life transitions seem daunting, whether you’re leaving college, switching jobs, or jumping from a very tall couch for the very first time. 9-week-old puppy Pierre (how French!) recently faced this challenge. He was frightened at first, but with the encouragement of his friends and family, he made the leap. As we face future transitions, the twists and turns of growing up, it’s always nice to have a sweet dog to identify with. Read More
Anyone else out there having one of those days/weeks/millennia in which they consistently question the goodness of mankind? Most of the news cycle is designed to point to awful people doing awful things. It's hard – especially on Thursdays – to be an optimist. Read More

This is the cutest thing I have seen today: Major props to American Eagle Outfitters for making a fake line for animals (complete with a mockumentary) to help raise money for rescue organizations.    ...their creative team deserves to be showered in sloppy, wonderful, St. Bernard kisses.    Also, the “American Beagle Outfitters Dogumentary” is a must-watch! Really high caliber parody. Sample soundbyte: “Do you know what it is like to go to the mall, and all they have for you is Halloween costumes? That’s what [my dog] is dealing with. Read More
