Female friendships are these amazing, complicated, weird and wonderful things that heavily influence most of our lives and yet are so often misrepresented (if presented at all) in popular media. It's not always sleepovers and mimosas; friendships are challenging, and as we grow up and change, so do our relationships. An honest look at these relationships arrives in the new show Doll & Em. Real life friends Emily Mortimer and Dolly Wells have teamed up to play fictional friends in the new HBO comedy series Doll & Em, which premiers March 19th. Read More
The internets and social media networks have been all abuzz about Ellen Page coming out in her speech at the Human Rights Campaign Time to Thrive Conference last week. If you live under a rock and/or haven’t watched it already, you really, really should.  Her brave speech (seriously, tears just listening to her voice shake), the support from her fellow actors, and the media’s response to an actress choosing to “live openly and authentically” is enough to make any ally, activist, or human person with a heart melt a little bit inside. Apparently ladies are not allowed to craft in the big house. After zipping through Orange is the New Black this shouldn't be a shock, but we were still bemused when this letter sauntered into our mailbox today. Our June/July 2013 issue (that’s the 20th anniversary special) was banned in the State of Missouri Department of Corrections for the article "Return of the Mac(ramé )." Is it because the administration is trying to keep a strong DIY ethic down? No, it’s because we demonstrated “how to tie knots.” Oops. Read More
