Let’s face it: summer network TV programming sucks.
This is usually the time of year when cable and the premium channels thrive and having a Netflix subscription becomes dire.
Fortunately, it appeared that Betty White’s new TV Land sitcom, Hot In Cleveland might be a promising new option.
The show’s debut last Wednesday pulled in a TV Land record of 4.75 million viewers, thus making it the most-watched telecast in the network’s history, according to Entertainment Weekly.
It also debuted to overwhelming positive reviews. Read More

We're so excited about the Betty White/Jay-Z combo, we've decided to try something different: a kind of liveblog for SNL! Post your thoughts as the show happens in the comments. I've got my money on a sketch featuring a rapping Betty.

Ladies of a certain age seem to be having their moment in the media right now. Last night, I watched a few episodes of Sunset Daze, the new reality show on WE about feisty folks living in a retirement home in Arizona, whose ages range from their 60s to their 70s. The nouveau riche Real Housewives, who are in their 40s and 50s, are acting up every week on Bravo, and soon we'll have another Sex and the City movie featuring glam gals in their 40s and 50s. We were excited when the Betty White love started. We were excited when it was announced she would host. And now, we have her promos to keep us occupied until the actual show this Saturday night. We’ll be opening a post that night so everyone can comment-liveblog their thoughts, so keep your eyes peeled! And check out her promos under the jump.
I think this means that she and Jay-Z will have to be in a sketch together. If they aren’t, I’ll be disappointed.

Yes! Betty White will be a more permanent fixture on TV, this time as a recurring character in a new series premiering on TV Land in June, “Hot in Cleveland.” According to a company press release, White will play the “snarky but loveable…property caretaker” to a home of other bankable small screen names—Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves and Valerie Bertinelli. If only the premise of the show felt a little less disturbing.
Apparently Malikc, Leeves and Bertinelli are on board a plane that makes an emergency landing in Cleveland. Read More

We've known for some time that Betty White would be on SNL, we just didn't know when. Or if she would actually be hosting. Now it's confirmed, the 88-year-old actor will have her day on May 8, 2010.
SNL Executive Producer Lorne Michaels told USA Today he was moved by the Facebook group, "Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!" group. We're thrilled Lorne noticed its nearly half a million fans.
What we didn't know, till a quick search of the Internets, is that maybe Betty has been hot to do this for decades. Read More

In a recent post by Gawker, Brian Moylan recounts the many ways Betty White is on top of her game right now. Whether starring in movies, a Super Bowl ad, or sitcoms, Betty White's staying power and ability to poke fun at roles traditionally allocated to elderly women has garnered herself a newfound respect from her audience and reminded us why we've loved her all along. And as Moylan writes, this particular type of love for Betty is sincere. Read More
