At times when my head felt like a New York City Subway station, hustling and bustling in a disarray of random facts, thoughts, and future plans- I instinctively began listing my senior high school classes in order from first to ninth period. English, Math, Science, Social Studies, French…. I continued to do this for a while, even after graduating from High School. It seemed that somehow listing this now useless gaggle of words provided my mind with an inexplicable sense of tranquility. Read More
Radio journalist Esther Honig sent her picture to Photoshop experts in 27 different countries for a project she calls Before & After. Keeping the fact that beauty standards are illuminated by Photoshop here in the U.S., she wanted to “examine how these standards vary across cultures on a global level.” The results (down below) are fascinating. While the results are largely based on the perception of the person doing the Photoshop, that perception is influenced by the nuances of local and global beauty standards. Read More
On June 9th blogger Nathan Biberdorf posted an article on his wordpress blog titled “Not Everyone Is Beautiful.” Guess what? This article is exactly what you think it is: some dude wanting to lash out against the body-positivity movement by being the thorn in your side that reminds you that you might actually not be beautiful.  Bull. Shit. That’s right. I call bullshit. Read More
Thanks to Tyra Banks and America's Next Top Model, the 11-year quest for who’s gonna be on top has been a “fierce” ride. We’ve learned to “smize” we learned what happens when you let Tyra down, and we’ve learned that true beauty doesn't only come in a 6’2-Blonde-90 pound-package. Read More
Today, I stumbled upon several articles promoting Alexa Chung's collaboration with Nails Inc. and the reveal of their newest polish made of KALE. No, you did not read that incorrectly. Yes, this nail polish, entitled NailKale, is made with the trendiest leafy green to ever make a comeback. After discovering this hilarious nonsense, I decided to scour the internet for more bi-products of the kale-obsessed decade in which we live. What I stumbled upon will surely make you laugh, cry, and curb your kale cravings-- well, at least for as long as you're reading this. Read More

Grace Choi wants you to have makeup that grows up with you, that you design and create yourself. It's like having your own personal M.A.C. boutique right in your bedroom. In the video of her demo at TechCrunch Disrupt, she's flippant, wise, savvy, speaking off the cuff--basically, the kind of woman you'd buy makeup from.  I can imagine myself hobbling away from her makeup counter with an armful of product, but remember this is the 21st century: at the end of this sales pitch, you'll be walking away with her $300 compact printer.
