A recent study confirms what many feminists already knew to be true: hardly any women regret having an abortion. This conclusion comes after a three-year research period involving over 600 women of all social backgrounds, which showed that 95 percent of women who have had abortions do not regret the decision to terminate their pregnancies. Researchers from the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health at UC San Francisco’s School of Medicine carried out the study, and it was published last week in the multidisciplinary academic journal PLOS ONE. Yesterday, the Supreme Court has issued a temporary stay on Texas House Bill 2 (HB 2), Texas’s anti-abortion law, which would have closed most clinics in the state and dramatically changed the way Texas women would able to access reproductive healthcare. The stay means Texas will temporarily be unable to enforce the disastrous anti-abortion law. This is very good news, but The Supreme Court will likely hear the case next term, which could possibly lead to some extremely bad news. HB 2 was upheld earlier in June by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Read More
This Saturday will be the Abortion Drone's first flight ever. The drone is a collaboration between a number of organizations, including Women on Waves, to provide abortions to women in countries where it is illegal. This isn't Women on Waves's first time helping women in abortion-restrictive companies: Previously, they sailed around the world. The first trip of the Abortion Drone will be from Germany to Poland. Poland is one of the few countries in Europe where abortion is still illegal. Read More
In 2007, then 18-year-old Carmen Guadalupe Vasquez was sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder in El Salvador after suffering from a miscarriage. The mother of one was rushed to the San Bartolo National Hospital, a public health clinic, the day she faced complications with her second pregnancy. The doctors almost immediately called the police and arrested her under suspicion of murder. Read More

Did you know September is Abortion Access Month? (I didn’t either...but now we both do!) The National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) is celebrating 20 years of helping women get the care they need by spearheading a renewed effort to open dialogue about abortion in the United States. NNAF board members Veronica Bayetti Flores and Eesha Pandit kicked off the month with an article on Feministing, revealing rather shocking statistics on the current state of a woman’s right to choose. Though a legal right to an abortion exists within the United States, for most it may as well not. Read More
Okay, Mark Ruffalo, you’ve caught my attention again. Aside from your beautiful face ( c’mon people, HAVE YOU LOOKED AT HIM?!), your support to end fracking has been so on point. And now you’ve lent your voice to reproductive rights. You gorgeous man, your political activism and sultry salt-n-pepa hair have done me in. (Sidenote: Sorry Ruffz for that objectification from me. It’s just really hard to reign it in when your face and your bod AND your politics are so lovely. Le sighhh. Read More
I don’t know when it will ever get through peoples heads- just because you make something illegal doesn’t mean that people will stop doing it, nor does it even begin to solve the problem. Texas, the reality is that abortions happen with or without legality and when you pass a bill that closes all but 5 abortion clinics, the reality of the situation doesn’t change. The result is more women endangering their lives and psychological stability by finding ways to induce abortion without a clinic. There have been more reports saying that "flea market" abortions have become the norm is Texas. Read More
Ireland has passed the "Protection of Life During Pregnancy" bill into law - and thank (non-denominational) God(s), the "life" being protected here is actually the pregnant woman's. Ireland's zealously religious "pro-life" cultural climate pushed against this decision with protests and debates for months now. Even when Savita Halappanavar tragically died after being denied an abortion in Ireland last year, her widower Praveen had a straightforward explanation: “Ireland is a Catholic country. Read More
Who you gonna call? Filibuster! Or Kristen Schaal, because this woman is a filibustering machine. Last night's Daily Show had Kristen satirically riffing the most prominent women in Texas this week - Wendy Davis and Jodie Laubenberg. Schaal didn’t equate Laubenberg to Davis, but proclaimed that Laubenberg was hands down more impressive! Say what?     Equipped with her hot pink Mizuno Wave Riders, a portable bathroom, and a chest scarification of #istandwithwendy, Schaal is ready to keep filibusterin' all night for women's rights.
