Today in stories about complete violations of a woman’s bodily autonomy: a pregnant Alabama woman in prison was seeking an abortion, and Alabama tried to take away her parental rights.
According to ThinkProgress, an adult woman identified as Jane Doe sought an abortion before she was taken into prison and requested furlough to leave long enough for the procedure to be conducted. The story reached peak media attention on Wednesday, July 29, but by Wednesday afternoon, she reportedly changed her mind about the decision. "After much consideration and counsel, I ... Read More
Well, shit. “The names and contact information for more than 300 Planned Parenthood employees have been published on a private website hosted by a group of hackers, part of an organization called 3301,” according to the Los Angeles Times. By publishing this confidential information, the hackers are putting the employees at risk for harassment and physical harm, endangering them and their families. Read More
Weeks after the Center for Medical Progress released its edited sting operation videos featuring Dr. Deborah Nucatola of Planned Parenthood, House Democrats are calling for an investigation into CMP – a logical step in the debacle.
Currently, Planned Parenthood is under close scrutiny by House Republicans who want to shut the organization down by stripping it of funding. CMP believes Planned Parenthood is profiting from donated fetal tissue and wants to end the organization for good. Read More

A recent study confirms what many feminists already knew to be true: hardly any women regret having an abortion. This conclusion comes after a three-year research period involving over 600 women of all social backgrounds, which showed that 95 percent of women who have had abortions do not regret the decision to terminate their pregnancies.
Researchers from the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health at UC San Francisco’s School of Medicine carried out the study, and it was published last week in the multidisciplinary academic journal PLOS ONE. Read More
Imagine you are a woman of reproductive age, low-income, and use Medicaid as your health insurance. Now imagine that you are pregnant, and you wish to have an abortion. You have made the decision that you cannot afford to raise a child, or perhaps you’re not ready, or don’t want a child. Whatever, you are entitled to have your reason. Well! I hope you have a wad of cash stashed away, because Medicaid won’t cover your abortion. A federal health care program intended for low-income people does not cover abortion. Read More
If one step to a safe abortion is a doctor who can perform it, we need more doctors learning how to do so. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 51 percent of obstetrics and gynecology residency programs offer routine abortion training. There are three typical “tracks” for abortion care training: opting out, in which abortion training is scheduled, but students can choose not to participate; opting in, in which training is available, but not regularly scheduled; and programs in which no training is regularly available. Are you tearing your hair out over abortion restrictions in Texas? I sure as hell am!
The latest blow to women’s health has been dealt by Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who has signed off on a two-year state budget that prevents Planned Parenthood from participating in the Breast and Cervical Cancer Services program. The joint state-federal program provides free cancer screenings for uninsured, low-income Texas women. A provision of the budget stipulates that clinics affiliated with abortion providers cannot receive funding from the program. Read More

This Saturday will be the Abortion Drone's first flight ever. The drone is a collaboration between a number of organizations, including Women on Waves, to provide abortions to women in countries where it is illegal. This isn't Women on Waves's first time helping women in abortion-restrictive companies: Previously, they sailed around the world.
The first trip of the Abortion Drone will be from Germany to Poland. Poland is one of the few countries in Europe where abortion is still illegal. Read More
In bullshit news that certainly won't start your day off right, a federal appellate court upheld the provisions of a particularly restrictive Texas abortion law.
Total garbage law HB 2 demands that in order to improve “safety,” abortion clinics must maintain the same building and equipment standards as hospital-style surgical centers, as well as requiring abortion doctors to obtain admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic. Major medical associations say that these conditions do not improve patient safety. Read More
