Some men are so keen to speak on behalf of women’s bodies, but they sure do know jack-squat about them. This was recently proven by Idaho State Rep. Vito Barbieri during a hearing for a bill prohibiting the prescription of abortion drugs via telemedicine. Dr. Julie Madsen, speaking on behalf of using web-cams for prescribing drugs, was explaining the pills used in colonoscopies that allow doctors to see its progression through the intestines. This is when Rep. Read More
We're pretty disheartened about the state of women's reproductive rights at the moment: It seems like every other day there is a new obscure abortion restriction law threatening to undo all the work Roe v. Wade set out to accomplish more than four decades ago. Reading this op-ed on Ohio.com, then, makes us feel a bit more at ease about what’s to come on the reproductive rights front. There, Congressman Tim Ryan shares his evolved stance on abortion—and it’s one conservatives might actually get behind. Read More
Happy Monday! While you're sipping your coffee, maybe you also spend a few minutes going over what happened last week to launch you into this one, yes? Yes. LET'S DO THIS. Women in Congress are breaking records and taking names, and we're not just talking about the Notorious RBG. Hey, Hollywood might be working on its lack of diversity... or maybe not. A new fitness campaign is giving us great body positive vibes by reminding us 'to jiggle is to be.' Points for the President: Obama's top feminist focus points in the State of the Union address.     Yesterday, House GOP members passed abortion legislation banning federal funding for abortions. The legislation was substituted for a more strict bill that would have capped abortions at 20 week, and being pushed for by right-wingers who claim a 20-week-old fetus may feel or perceive some pain during the procedure. Though we’re glad that one was shelved (for now), the new legislation  negatively affects the health of hundreds of thousands of women—especially those who are socioeconomically disadvantaged. Ready to get mad? Here you go: Tw0-hundred and thirty-one anti-abortion laws have passed in the U.S. since 2011, according to data from the Guttmacher Institute. That means even with the 96 state-legislated measures that expanded abortion access in the same period of time, more than half of American women still live in places that are hostile to abortion rights. The worst offending areas to live? Those would be Texas, North Dakota, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio. Read More
Rachel Maddow resorts to schooling the outdated beliefs men may have by reporting from a man-cave. This educational video is a battle between politics and science because Republican candidate Bob Beauprez is running for governor yet again in Colorado, and is convinced that IUDs cause continual abortions in a woman's body. This very misinformed statement will be involved in the ballot for Colorado tomorrow, Nov 4. It will be on the Personhood Amendment, which will make abortions, including IUDs, under this politicians definition, illegal. Read More
Oh, Colorado. I loved you for so long! The state that’s home to the beautiful Southern Rocky Mountains and has legalized marijuana. But, unfortunately we are going to have to take a break until you get yourself together. This November, Coloradans will vote on whether to expand the definition of a person in the state’s criminal code to include unborn human beings.  Personhood USA is at the head of this anti-abortion cause. This is their third year of trying to get “personhood” past the state’s voters. Read More
Jennifer Whalen, a 39-year old mother of three, was just sent to jail in Washingtonville, Pennsylvania because she is charged with the crime of ordering medical abortion pills online for her daughter to terminate her pregnancy. The daughter took the pills on her own accord, during her first trimester, and the pills worked. This is not a pro-life or pro-choice issue, because if it were, the daughter might be the one jailed (fortunately, an abortion in the first trimester is legal in Pennsylvania). Unfortunately, it was the means used that were found illegal in the state. Read More

Good news is rolling in on the abortion front from, of all places, Birmingham, Alabama!  On Monday, a federal judge ruled that a new Alabama law—which would restrict doctors who perform abortions and force several women’s clinics to shut down—placed unconstitutional restrictions on a woman’s right to choose.
