It comes as no surprise that America’s laws regarding teens and sex are bonkers and a half. The subject of sexuality in people under the age of 18 is still considered taboo by many Americans, and is simply unfathomable to others. The lack of effective legislation where minors and sex are concerned becomes glaringly obvious in the case of sexual assault, a lesson that those on the receiving end of this violence learn the hard way. In case you haven’t heard (after the uproar stirred by the Post this past week), a handful of New York City public schools have been testing out a program that dispenses oral and, more recently, injectable contraceptives, as well as the morning after pill or Plan B, to female students in need. Dubbed “CATCH” or Connecting Adolescents to Comprehensive Healthcare, the pilot program launched in January of 2011 and managed to fly under the radar.
