Babeland is a feminist sex toy retailer started over 20 years ago in Seattle, WA, by two queer best friends, me (Rachel) and Claire. We’ve been allies with BUST for all these years, and because it’s Pride, which is a pretty sexy month, they invited us to do a blog post. Thanks BUST!
Babeland and Pride go way back. I remember in June of 1993, Claire and I taught ourselves to screenprint so we could give our friends barely dry “Where is Babeland?” shirts to wear at the parade. We didn’t have a store yet, but we had a plan. Women wanted vibrators and dildos. Read More

Reddit can be a pretty a bleak place for feminists, with upvoted posts like this and this floating around. But redditors—or lurkers like me—who delve beyond the front page know there are corners of this sprawling open platform ruled by badass, empowered women. Take, for example, Reddit’s growing sex work community, where women are making bank selling adult goods and services on subreddits such as /r/pantyselling, /r/CamShow, /r/KikSnaps /r/fetishitems, and /r/Sexsells.
So today I’m bringing you a few TIL dispatches from their neck of the Internet woods. Read More

Although the teen pregnancy rate in the U.S. is currently lower than it has ever been in the last seventy years, this development is quite worrisome. Read More

For the past eight years, Mad Men has given us a dramatic look at the lives of executive men in the 60s and the decadent filled lives they led. While there are certainly some dynamic female characters, it is the men that undoubtedly get the focus—done on purpose as a way to depict the era. In fact, some women are often treated as trophies for the pleasure of men and these vintage photographs found in a briefcase document a woman put on display for the gaze of her lover:

We recently came across a piece on HuffPost entitled 10 Reasons Women Should Date Men In Their 50s. Basically, it asserts that women everywhere must wait for men to turn the magic five-o before expecting them to be respectful, responsible, and sensitive human beings—a message that's not only offensive to the female sex, but to all good dudes everywhere.
What's more? The subtext of the entire piece speaks to why younger women should date men in their 50s. Newsflash: Women in their 50s are happy to date men their own age. Read More

As Valentine’s Day approaches our minds are filled with all the things that come along with this Hallmark holiday: chocolate, teddy bears, wine, dates, and of course, sex. Not to say that sex isn't on our minds more than one day of the year but it is particularly present around this time, and obviously gets us thinking about the one thing we all long for...orgasms. With the imminent release of Fifty Shades of Grey, as well as the return of naked-lady-centric Game of Thrones, it seems that Hollywood is in no rush to diversify its representations of women experiencing the big O onscreen. We all know the look- just picture the infamous When Harry Met Sally scene to refresh- mouth dropped open in euphoria, back arched, eyes closed with nary a weird twitch or unbecoming grimace in sight. Ask anybody (maybe not anybody) how much sex they’re having on the regs and you’ll get a range of answers—from, “all day, every day” to “3-4 times a week” to “I’m your mailperson, please don’t ask me that.” And all you can really do is trust their word; no statistic can be rubbed under their nose proving them lying sex-deprived losers.
