Art is my life and my life is art. A lot of people, including myself until quite recently, know Yoko Ono for one majorly negative thing: allegedly breaking up the Beatles. Even now, her name is used as a synonym for "evil female interloper." But Yoko Ono is so much more than that: she's a very important feminist role model. Like many women, Ono's identity has unfairly disappeared into her husband's. We think of her more for who she loved and who she married than what she personally accomplished. Read More

It’s hard not to imagine Mindy Kaling as anything other than her “delusionally confident, unapologetically selfish” character of Mindy Lahiri in “The Mindy Project." But at 19 she was just a lowly intern on Late Night with Conan O’Brien—although she says she was "less of a 'make copies' intern and more of a 'stalk Conan' intern." I think we can almost all agree that thinspo and its cousin fitspo (that tries to not be rude but still manages to be so rude) are both kind of the worst. The intense "no excuses" attitudes reflected by bold fonts saying something aggressive over images of impossibly thin women sweating, is just annoying, not to mention dangerously supportive of negative self-talk, detrimental to self-love, and just bottom line not what we need to see or hear. There is enough pressure for our bodies to look a certain way from sources we don't exactly choose to look at, and standards we never picked. Read More
Brace yourself. Gandhi never said, "be the change you want to see in the world."   I'll give you a few minutes while you go peel the bumper sticker off of your car. That is just one of 50 commonly misused and misattributed quotes that author John Green forever ruins by telling us all the hard truth. Audre Lorde is an absolute inspiration to many people regardless of self-definition, in terms of gender, race, sexuality, and feminist location. The ongoing evolution of self-discovery and self-definition are significant aspects of Lorde’s writing, poetry and activism and she is undeniably one of history’s most powerful, yet accessible female voices. She was born in New York City on February 18, 1934 and in honor of her would-be 80th birthday today we've rounded up a collection of some of her most inspiring quotes. Read More
I don't need to tell you that Mean Girls is the most hysterical, quotable movie of all time. You know it, I know it, it is fact. And the best part is, there's never a bad time to use a Mean Girls line. You are always regarded as witty and charming for pulling "she doesn't even go here" out of your ass at a party. It's a universal truth. But Christopher Rosa, an intern for NextMovie, just put us all to shame. This majestic creature takes Mean Girls love to the next level by reciting the ENTIRE MOVIE line-for-line in just under half an hour. While donning a pink polo shirt. Read More
