A political craze in Detroit, Colorado has taken the shocking form of IUD glitter earrings. These funky pieces of sparkly jewelry are being used to make more than just a fashion statement—they are becoming symbols of support for House Bill 1194, which would give extended funding to the Colorado Family Planning Initiative, originally set to expire on June 30. The bill would provide $5 million dollars to low-income women, giving them access to IUDs and other reversible forms of contraceptives. Read More

Nowadays, with all the extensive medical care, doctors and pain meds available for soon-to-be-mothers, pregnancy seems like a walk in the park! While about 200 years ago, pregnancy was almost like a death sentence, now the prospect of a childbirth-related death is almost unheard of, right? Actually, wrong.

21 states have signed bills that deem it illegal to handcuff women while in labor and immediately after; however, correctional officers have taken on their own measures to “protect” citizens from these offenders. Despite what doctors have called life-threatening to both mother and child, women are still routinely shackled during and immediately after labor.
