Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas has managed to turn the exciting event of creating the first female rapper wax figure into a weird sexist mess. Nicki Minaj’s wax figure was recently revealed, and the finished product is mildly disturbing.
The figure is on all fours, barely clothed, with her ass popped out. The team of 20 artists devoted six months to “sculpting, plastering, meticulously inserting hairs and painting the shiny gleam on her backside” and even with all that time, they didn’t once stop to think, “Hmm this might be a little sexist. After the announcement of the Video Music Awards, Nicki Minaj took to Twitter to thank MTV for the nominations she earned—Best Female Video for “Anaconda,” Best Hip-Hop Video for “Anaconda,” and Best Collaboration for her work on “Bang Bang.” Here’s where it got messy: She also tweeted that she felt “Anaconda” was snubbed for the Video of the Year award, which is considered the seminal award of the night, and that her collab with Beyoncé, “Feeling Myself,” deserved attention too. I attended my first game jam ever this weekend at NYU’s Gaming Center and I was incredibly nervous and intimidated. I was invited by one of the ladies of Code Liberation, an all-girl organization that aims to level the playing field in the game world and provides free game programing classes to women in order to create gender equality in the gaming industry. This particular event was hosted by a research center centered around game studies and design, digital culture and interactive art. Read More

There’s no question that Nicki Minaj is a queen in her own right. She inspires millions, being one of a small number of female rappers who made the big time. In many of her songs and videos, she’s fierce, confident and quite literally annihilating the male gaze (like in the video for her single “Lookin’ Ass”). All that being said, it’s hard to deny that Nicki Minaj embraces some form of feminism. But is her brand of feminism for everyone?
Nicki is a very strong woman who completely owns her sexuality. Read More

Music is a very male-dominated industry, and when women do rise to prominence they are often pitted against and compared to each other, despite the fact that each queen is a unique snowflake and should be treated as such.
But once in a blue moon, all the stars align and three or more female powerhouses collaborate to create a club-banger that reminds the boys that these divas are not only fierce, but borderline superhuman when they work together. You better work, ladies. Read More

It's 2014 and this is officially Nicki Minaj’s year. She rang in the new year with February’s “Lookin Ass” (which literally annihilated the male gaze) and made headlines with her “Baby Got Back”-reclaiming “Anaconda”. Ursulatheseabitch, an 8tracks user, created a dance (and/or tears) inducing mega mix of 50 Nicki Minaj features - and only the features. Read More
