You are going to want to get to know New York-based rocker Anna Rose.  Her single “Behold a Pale Horse”, off the upcoming album of the same name, opens with a haunting bass line, which sets the stage for the 1-2 punch of Rose’s vocals.  Her dark and deep sound is reminiscent of Heart's Ann Wilson (remember “Barracuda” and “Magic Man”?). The song's thick, heavy tone is appropriate considering the subject matter: the title comes from the Book of ... Read More
If you live in New York City and have been following the 'Free Pussy Riot!' movement as closely as we have, tonight’s the night to get involved! Amnesty International, FreePussyRiot.org, The Voice Project, and Lombard Freid Projects have joined together for a one-night-only benefit exhibition featuring five original videos of the feminist punk collective as well as various speakers from the New York cultural community. The ... Read More
Have you heard of Sweater Girls?  Honestly, I hadn’t until I gave their album Sweater Girls Were Here a listen.  Their latest album is a collection of cutesy songs about young love, heartbreak, and things like “riding bikes through the park,” as heard on the third track, “Pretty When You Smile.”  If you like to hum along to the smooth and indifferent vocals of Diana Meehan of Best Coast, or have ever found yourself ... At BUST, we love Johanna And The Dusty Floor, and they have a new video out we think you will enjoy just as much as we do. “Fishbones” is a beautiful and haunting slow electro-pop song. The video was shot by Jeaneen Lund, a regular contributor to BUST, and the amazing visuals (courtesy of Iceland) are as striking as the music. Johanna will be singing for The Cranberries on their world tour starting in October, but first she's  headlining a ... Read More
Screaming Females’ front lady Marissa Paternoster comes back from the dead (uh, literally) as a cat flesh eating zombie out for revenge in the Jersey-based punk band’s weird new music video for “Leave It All Up To Me.”  The video, which premiered on RollingStone.com, is meant to be a continuation of the playfully gory story started in the previous video for “It All Means Nothing,” where the two boys of the band kill ...   Sinead O’Connor, the Irish rocker who became a staple of the sad rock that was huge in the 90’s, gave her fans a scare when she tweeted about her depression and her desperate need for medication and psychiatric help last January.   Shortly after, the bipolar singer attempted suicide for the second time, overdosing on pills.      But there’s good news from all this gloom.  O’Connor has since made a ... Two members of Pussy Riot, the Russian feminist punk band that has taken over the news lately, have fled Russia. There are 12 remaining members of the band still in Russia, not including the three who were recently sentenced to prison terms. The two that have fled are reportedly trying to avoid persecution by Russian police, as five members of the band were part of the infamous protest against Putin in February, but only three were arrested. The band stated on its ... Read More
Kreayshawn, the badass rapper who pumped swag out of her ovaries and meowed at us in her much-discussed 2011 single “Gucci Gucci," is still in the game. In fact, she's about to release her debut album, Somethin ‘Bout Kreay, on September 18 (instead of the previously announced date August 14) through Columbia Records. The album will featured a cast of heavy-hitter collaborations with artists like Diplo, Sissy Nobby, 2 Chainz, and Kid Cudi. ... Read More
Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot has been in the news nearly daily lately, and with good reason. The announcement of the members' two-year prison sentences has mobilized and outraged so many of us, and sparked an outpouring of support from around the globe. Three masked activists in Germany were recently arrested for staging a "Free Pussy Riot" protest inside a cathedral, and Madonna and Kathleen Hanna even lent them support. Now a new project, Lets Start a ... Read More
House of Deréon, the fashion label created by Beyoncé’s mom, Tina, has unveiled its ads for the Autumn/Winter 2012 line. This season's looks were inspired by Beyoncé’s stage outfits from last year's Glastonbury festival--appropriately, the girl that the line represents is meant to be a free spirit having an awesome time at a music festival. Beyoncé pretty much looks amazing in everything, so we're not surprised that she ... Read More
