The Modern Man is the Internet’s latest mangled bits of thirsty, quasi-Men’s Right Activist dating advice coming from Dan Bacon, a self-appointed “dating and relationship expert.” Needless to say, Bacon is only concerned with heterosexual, cisgender dudes. Obviously.

After forcing myself to read the entirety of the Vice article “Women of the Men’s Right’s Movement,” my brain is bubbling with so much anger and fury, I think it may just explode.

When I was 19 and in my second year of university on Vancouver Island, a robber entered my home and stole a number of valuables.
I had been home alone. I had fallen asleep and when my friends left my house they didn't lock the door. I was agonized by the idea that something worse than theft might have happened. The sense of invasion when your home is robbed is tantamount to the way girls feel at all times: nowhere is safe-- not your home, not your street, not your campus.

The Internet confuses me. On the one hand, I’ve found an amazing feminist community full of support and open-mindedness. On the other hand, trolls. It’s gotten to the point where I almost can’t read comments on articles out of fear of MRA (Men’s Rights Activists) doing their thing. Sure, free speech is important and everyone is entitled to one’s own opinion. But I simultaneously feel hope and disappointment in humanity the more I stay online. Read More
