Great news, trekkies: Voyager celebrates its 20th anniversary today! January 16th of 1995 marked the first episode of this intrepid series. This is especially exciting as it also marks the anniversary of the appearance of Star Trek’s first female captain and star of Voyager, Kathryn Janeway, played by Kate Mulgrew.
Star Trek has had female captains before Janeway, but she was the only woman to serve as the lead character in a series. She later went on to become a Starfleet Admiral. Read More

On the evening of June 5, 2014, the ATAS held a panel appropriately entitled "Women Ruling TV" featuring the women of hit shows House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. Jodie Foster directed one episode of each, and Robin Wright directed an episode of House of Cards (on which she plays Kevin Spacey's cunning spouse). Taylor Schilling (Piper on OITNB) and Kate Mulgrew (Big Red) were also present, along with Netflix documentary The Square director Jehane Noujaim. Read More
