Remember in the Titanic when Jack says goodbye to Rose for the first time, and women and children are the first passengers let onto the lifeboats? Wasn't that so chivalrous, and also such a clear reflection of the era's view of women as in need of saving? Well ladies, in bittersweet news, it seems those days are over.
