Representation matters—even in your iPhone’s Emoji inventory. Recently, the Emoji app incorporated more people of different skin tones, but their options for women are still lacking.
MAKERS, an organization that aims to create the largest-ever collection of women’s stories, made the call for “Femojis” in a blog post yesterday. Second Wavers are finally getting the small screen representation they deserve. Yesterday, HBO announced that Marisa Tomei will be playing Gloria Steinem in the upcoming miniseries Ms. The series will focus on Ms. magazine’s founding in 1971 through the eyes of both the women who founded it and the women whom it affected. Kathy Najimy (Sister Act, Hocus Pocus) is set to co-star as U.S. Representative and feminist leader Bella Abzug.
