So it's officially spring. Instead of celebrating in high-waisted shorts, we're having to celebrate with our jackets on and snacking on office take-out. But we aren't letting snowflakes get us down—we're looking forward to Netflix's new April titles (and the warmer weather that will hopefully follow).  Starting April 1st, Netflix will be removing some pretty longtime favorites: Mystic Pizza, Friday the 13th, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Sense and Sensibility will all sadly, disappear from our queues. Award-winning actor and advocate Geena Davis is set to launch a film festival this spring  that celebrates women and minority characters: Films will only qualify for the competition portion if the cast is gender-balanced and the script was written, directed, and led by a woman or minority person. The festival kicks off May 5th-9th in Bentonville, Arkansas, and will include a number of legendary actors and artists—like Angela Bassett, Eva Longoria, and Julianne Moore, to name a few. Read More
Rocks in My Pockets is an animated movie for adults that poses the question, “How do you stay sane in this crazy world?”  While this particular line of thinking is nothing new, the film, funded by over 800 Kickstarter contributions, searches for answers via five women and their personal battles with depression and suicide. SXSW has become such a mega-star in the summer festival constellation that it can be hard to sift through the clutter and find the one band/film/event that makes it all worthwhile.  I personally find the music festival way too hot to endure and the "Interactive" events a bit too chilly — but the film festival? The film festival is just right. I saw so many great films (and missed so many others...) that I wish I could have stayed another week. Read More

Along with Dunham, film producer/horror expert Jason Blum and YouTube sensation Casey Neistat will also keynote. This news is particularly exciting, as next year will be the first time SXSW has programmed keynote addresses. Read More
The Food Film Fest is one of the oddest and most fun movie events in the game. The conceit is (fairly) simple: the audience watches a series of short films on some element of food culture, and as each dish is introduced on screen, servers distribute tasting plates of the same dish to all the viewers. And after each screening, a party is held where the theme food is served (along with a whole lot of relevant-themed beer and cocktails, of course). The events, which are held in NYC, Chicago, and Charleston SC, benefit local food-related charities, and they are seriously not to be missed. Read More
Our favorite gender norm destroyer Peaches will be hosting a very special event this Thursday for the premiere of her new feature film Peaches Does Herself. The screening will take place at the San Francisco International Film Festival, followed by a Q & A with Peaches herself. The opera includes 23 original Peaches songs and includes a cast of crew of over 40. Peaches wrote, directed, and stars in the musical and reviewers are already singing its praises. Read More
