Hamm is second from the left. Mia Hamm is arguably one of the coolest woman in the history of soccer. Hamm has been playing since she was very young. At 15, she made the U.S. national team, making her the youngest ever to play for the team at the time. When Hamm was 19 she played for the U.S. in the first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup.  She retired in 2004, but has remained in the spotlight for her support of soccer. Unfortunately, the world of sports is one that is riddled with sexism - especially the world of my favorite (and the world's favorite) sport, soccer. The current president of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, is infamous for his sexist stances in regards to the game. In 2004, he stated that the women's uniforms should have "tighter shorts" and "low-cut shirts" to for a more "female aesthetic" to make the game more interesting. Because all female athletes need to do is flash their boobs and wear tighter clothing to be taken seriously. Read More
Finally, FIFA, the international governing body of soccer, has lifted its infamous ban on headscarves. The ban, created due to “safety concerns,” was instituted in 2007. FIFA has now proposed a  headscarf that is fastened with Velcro instead of pins, and is permitting female soccer players to test them out over a trial period of four months. Read More
