It's about time for a new kind of video girl: one who's confident, smiling (not writhing), and fully clothed. That's exactly what Brooklyn electronic artist DATALOG is serving in the new video for "Moon Shoes," a thumping rollercoaster of joyful beats and synths.
Casting three curvy women of color and not asking them to disrobe is, unfortunately, rare in the music industry. The creators of the video were seeking to protest this under-representation of non-white women and the hegemonic ideals of beauty prevalent in music videos. Read More

So maybe he’s not a band per se, but Brooklyn-based producer DATALOG and his new EP, Threads, is worth an alert. Threads is a hazy, warm blend of electronica, jazz, and world beats, all wrapped up in one kicked-back, noir-tinged package. Fans of everything from Flying Lotus to Massive Attack take note. Songs like “Sink Babies” offer subtle samples and thumps aplenty; the title track is a melancholy acid trip that demands ass shaking.
