By Lisa Butterworth Illustrated by Janice Wu   Sure, Ben & Jerry’s is delicious, but a steady diet of the stuff is ridiculously expensive. And electric ice cream makers are great, but who wants to clog up their countertop with yet another single-tasker gadget? Instead, try whipping up the warm-weather dessert yourself! All you’ll need are a handful of ingredients and a couple of coffee cans—it’s an immensely satisfying and crazy-easy project. Read More
Whether you define the start of summer as the moment it’s finally warm enough to break out your favorite short-shorts (sans tights, of course), the void between the beautiful ending of one school year and the dreaded beginning of another, or the first weekend you and your girls can head to your favorite beach, it’s finally here for many of us, in all of its mercurially sunny splendor (And if you’re one of those sticklers who believes that summer starts the day of the summer solstice, face it – you’re an anomaly). We saw this post on "Food Pervert" Laura Vincent's blog HungryandFrozen.com, and had to share it with you.  I thought that Gin and Tonic Ice Cream would be nice. Gin and tonic go together so excellently well, so why wouldn't they excel together in ice cream form? Well, it wasn't so much "nice" as "high-kick-then-landing-in-a-split-ingly rapturous", but you be the judge.   You no more need an ice cream machine for this than you need to know how to do the splits. It really couldn't be easier. Or more unconditionally delicious. Read More

With Earth Day fast approaching, the internet is all abuzz with sustainable crafts designed with our beloved planet in mind.  We're all taught at a young age how reduce and reuse should come before recycle, but somewhere along the way I think a lot of us forget the first two. Here are a few projects that reuse former trash. They are so simple, the laziest person in the world (yours truly) can do them, so you have no excuse. C'mon. Don't you love your Mother Earth? You never call, you never write…. Read More

Here at BUST, though, we think half the fun (or sometimes all of the fun!) in acquiring something new comes from doing it yourself. Thanks to the hundreds of awesome DIY blogs these days, new ideas are constantly at our fingertips. Despite what beauty companies want you to think, taking care of your skin does not have to be expensive. It also doesn't mean you're limited to the beauty aisle at Target to clean out those pores. Sometimes the best remedy for stressed skin is sitting in your very own food pantry (or in my case a cardboard box in my cramped apartment). Pure raw honey is an amazing treatment for any skin type, whether you're oily, dry, sensitive, combination, or even normal. Read More
