Embroidery enthusiast Lucky Jackson has made it her mission to create a new work of embroidery for every day of the year, with the clever mantra "Less Bitchin' More Stitchin'" in mind, according to her Etsy shop announcement. And if that’s not ambitious enough, her project is already taking on a second year of operation.  After Jackson finishes a piece, she posts it on her website for viewers to comment on and ask questions about. But Jackson isn’t just whipping up your average vintage embroidery catalog pieces. Read More

For me and many other creative people I know, crafting has always been a solitary and selfish endeavor. Between the month during 7th grade that I holed myself up in my room every evening to work on a latch-hooked Winnie the Pooh pillow and the hours I currently spend in quirky vintage boutiques looking for trinkets to deconstruct into novelty earrings, I’m embarrassed to admit that most of what I make falls into the ‘look, don’t touch’ (or take, or ask, or beg for) category. Have plans for this weekend? What’s that you say? You were just going to lie around catching up on your Netflix queue and pretending to clean your apartment? I’ve got something much, much better. By Desiree Stewart Photographed by Sarah Anne Ward Styled by Maya Rossi Geometric jewelry is all the rage right now, but the designer stuff will put a massive dent in your wallet. Luckily, crafting your own pieces out of Shrinky Dink plastic means you’re limited by your imagination, not your budget. The jewelry possibilities are endless—you can whip up some earrings, a brooch, or even rings out of this easy-to-use material. For this tutorial, we’ll create an ultra-hip necklace that’ll look like a million bucks, but cost less than 10. Read More

Paper Girls

BY Intern Christina in Arts

The cast of Girls seems to be everywhere these days in print, but now you can take them everywhere with you in prints. Different prints, actually, thanks to Kevin Hilton at Vulture. The brilliance of this kind of Girls print-job is that it is in doll form. Each of the four cast members now has their own paper doll, complete with different outfits and accessories. If you've been watching the season, you'll be pleased to see that the intricacies of each character's life are perfectly addressed in their doll counterpart's adornments. Read More
Are there boring and/or fugly hand-me-down pillows inhabiting your basement and closet that you just can’t seem to find a home for anywhere in your apartment? Don’t toss them out, and don’t submit to the wallet-draining prices at Pier 1 Imports, Target, and Ikea. Thanks to Tip Junkie, even the most revolting looking pillow can be re-vamped without any sewing or measuring, for a fraction of the cost of buying a new one. If you don’t have a pillow to make over, your local craft store should carry plain, white pillows for all your crafty pursuits. Read More
Target’s newest collaboration has us itching to raid the kid’s section. Aptly titled Kid Made Modern, the collection is a real departure for Target’s designer partnerships. Kid Made Modern is the brainchild of Todd Oldham, friend of and sometime photographer for BUST, and it’s a collection of art supplies and craft kits that are intended for youngins but are cool enough for the post-pubescent, too. Kid Made Modern offers supplies for artists in a variety of media: felt, duct tape, paint sets, glitter glue, crazy crayons and more. Read More
