Phyllis Diller, celebrated comedienne, passed away this morning at the age of 95.  She will be missed terribly by the entertainment industry, by her fans, and of course by her friends and family.  She was a pioneer for funny women everywhere, her jokes unabashedly sassy, feisty and brazen.  She truly paved the way for other women entering the world of stand-up comedy, all while debunking the stereotype that women aren’t laugh-out-loud hilarious. Comedian Mike Birbiglia sure knows how to make people want to see a movie: by telling them they’re going to hate it.  Oh wait, he actually just went “over board” and you’ll probably love his new comedy Sleepwalk With Me. The "heartfelt comedy" will be especially great if it has half the wit and charisma of the Vulture exclusive short that debuted today. Read More
Famously peeved funny lady Joan Rivers has a new source for her unbridled (and often hysterical) ire. This time, it’s the wholesale super store Costco that's under fire. What did the bulk supplier do to make the queen of mean so darn mad?  They’re not selling her book, I Hate Everyone...Starting with Me, due to some “offensive” content. Shame on you Los Angeles Costco! How dare you? The 79-year-old badass (who talks about her book in our latest August/September issue) handcuffed herself to a shopping cart and even brought a film crew. Read More
We love us some Louis CK around here, so we were super disappointed when news came out that he had tweeted his support of Daniel Tosh during the time of the rape joke controversy that surrounded him. Louis must have been pretty disappointed about it himself, so he went on The Daily Show last nite, basically to explain his position. He said that he was on vacation in Vermont, detached from the internet, and decided to tweet that he enjoyed Daniel Tosh's humor because he happened to be watching his show while in a hotel. The masterminds behind the "Call Me Maybe" Barack Obama remix are at it again, this time using the smooth stylings of Justing Bieber's "If I Was Your Boyfriend." Let the president serenade you in this cut together video. Although he cannot really be your boyfriend (Michelle would probably be ticked), you can wonder as to what the president would really do as your man. Would he sit by the fire with you and eat fondue like the Biebz? Fly you to Hawaii to show you his hometown? Make Donald Trump jokes with you on his birthday? We can only wonder. Read More
Today is the day when my personal favorite and BUST-featured deadpan actress extraordinaire was born: Aubrey Plaza. In honor of her day of birth, here's a playlist of clips that detail what I think Aubrey's doing on her birthday. You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this video First, Aubrey is probably going to receive a lot of gifts from other people. But if there's one lesson that her show Parks and Recreation taught us, it's this: treat yo self. So on her birthday, she'll probably hit up a couple places in order to find the perfect gift to herself. Read More
Larry Getlen at the New York Post interviewed Adam Carolla today to talk about his new book, which is about growing up in North Hollywood, and probably a lot of other things no one cares about. Today, he's saying a bunch of inflammatory stuff-- probably to try to gain some sort of cultural relevance other than his podcast or old show. One of those things is that women aren't funny. For a dude whose old TV show was based almost entirely on making fun of women, or women on jumping on trampolines, it makes you wonder if he knows anything about comedy. Read More
YOU OUGHTA KNOW that Alanis Morissette’s new single “Guardian” is here. It’s a precursor to her album that’s dropping in August by the name of Havoc and Bright Lights. And if you love Alanis you probably know that on June 19th she is giving a TimesTalk. But if that isn’t enough for you, you can pre-party as well. It’s been 17 years since Jagged Little Pill came out. Can you believe it? “Ironic”, “Hand in my Pocket”, “Head Over Feet”, “You Oughta Know": all part of the pop music canon. Read More
As of a year ago yesterday, the internet has been invaded with live streams of cute animals, rants and raves on seemingly everything on TV and the silver screen ever, and a lot of baller nail art. This sparkly invasion is brought to you by the infectious laughter of HelloGiggles, an online community pitched as "the female alternative to funny or die," created by the Queen of all things Adorable herself Zooey Deschanel with friends Sophia Rossi and Molly McAleer. McAleer and Rossi met through their online network of hilarious bloggers, and then Rossi met Deschanel in aerobics class at the gym. Read More
On Tuesday, Senate Republicans blocked the Paycheck Fairness Act, a bill that would have ensured women be paid the same amount as their male counterparts. Despite the fact that this bill seems to make perfect sense to anyone with half a brain, the final vote was 52-47. The real mind-boggling cherry on top of this already non-sensical sundae is the fact that several female senators (who apparently don’t mind being paid less than their male counterparts all that much) were among those that voted against the bill.
