I probably shouldn’t appreciate stories about girls punching guys. I mean, it’s wrong to commit violence against anyone, right? I shouldn’t endorse this sort of thing. But it brings a little warmth to my heart to hear about someone who proves that no matter what their age, size, or level of "femininity," women are definitely capable of defending themselves when they’re being attacked or harassed.

An upcoming children’s book by author Paul Kramer has come under scrutiny for its message. Maggie Goes on a Diet is aimed for children under 12 years of age and is the story of a 14-year-old girl (she looks much younger on the cover) who attempts to eat healthily and exercise as a response to teasing she receives from her classmates. She then goes on to lose weight and become the star of the soccer team in a Cinderella-like transformation. The book has caused an uproar on sites like Amazon. Read More
