It is a Jubilee Year, a.k.a. a Catholic year of Mercy, and Pope Francis is yet again proving to be James Dean levels of cool by directing priests to pardon women who have had abortions.  Generally, this is a good thing. Because it's a year of mercy, priests are encouraged to pardon and forgive all “sinners." Which is to say that women who have had an abortion have sinned, and have something they should be repentant for in the first place. Read More

Trigger Warning: This post contains a description of sexual assault that may be triggering for survivors.   Though he's one of the leading critics of conservative politicians, comedy news anchor Stephen Colbert is a devout Catholic--and he "loves his Church, warts and all." This past Friday, Colbert met with the Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, to engage in a dialogue on “Humor, Joy, and the Spiritual Life" at Fordham University. Father James Martin, a Jesuit Catholic priest and author, moderated the conversation. Three thousand Fordham students waited as long as five hours to gather in the gym at the university's Bronx campus. Read More
That building would be the Catholic Church.  Rice was never exactly the follower the Catholic Church dreams of.  She’s known primarily for either the seriously sexual Vampire Chronicles (the first of which was written the year Stephanie Meyer was born), or the seriously soporific Sleeping Beauty Trilogy (a BDSM series that never gets any more BDSMish than repetitive spankings).  Then there’s also that series on witches in there somewhere.
