Amy Poehler's Smart Girls at the Party started off as a web series and is now a whole online community. They have a website, a Facebook page, and a Tumblr. Smart Girls encourages young women to be active in their communities and make a difference in the world. It's an incredible organization, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to get to talk to one of its founders, Meredith Walker.
What made you want to start Smart Girls?
It came from being up late at night ... Read More

When I think of “Making it in America” I imagine a life full of making it rain, throwing drinks in other people’s faces, bling bling, and of course, being able to lounge around in a Juicy Couture tracksuit 24/7.
While The Real Housewives franchise may have seriously influenced my opinions on the American dream, I still believe that success should be measured in expensive loungewear. What else says you’ve made it like a $300 matching, ... Read More

Imagine if Date Movie—the romcom spin-off of the Scary Movie franchise—were about 50 times smarter. This seems to be the premise of They Came Together, a chick flick parody directed by David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer, Role Models) that stars Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd and features pretty much every funny working actor today: Bill Hader, Ellie Kemper, Michael Ian Black, Jack McBrayer, Kenan Thompson, Michaela Watkins, Adam Scott…the list goes ... Amy Poehler has a pretty special place in my heart, largely because Leslie Knope is my spirit animal, but also because Poehler is wise and fearless, and she is never afraid to speak her mind.
Have you ever Googled "Best Amy Poehler Quotes?" Not only does she have two BuzzFeed posts dedicated to her wise and honest words, but there are tons of other round-ups of her advice to the world - because it really is that poignant and amazing.
So, it's no ... Read More

When the cast of 30 Rock bid a last adieu to their Thursday night slot on NBC...everything basically shattered for me. First The Office, now this? Suddenly, Parks & Recreation had to pull a lot of the comedy weight for the widely-acknowledged funniest network on the telly. And I suddenly had an extra hour and a half to fill every week, twiddling my thumbs in the absence of a Liz Lemon laugh riot.
It's been a rough few years, but finally -- does one ... Read More

I know, it's a lot to take in. This is a talent threesome dreams are made of. A new series entitled Difficult People will star hilarious On the Street with Billy host Billy Eichner and wildly talented head writer Julie Klausner as cranky New York City comedians who apparently hate everyone, but love pop-culture, and each other. The show will be produced by none other than Amy Poehler, because she does everything awesome. Based on the awkward and perfect ... Read More
Identifying as a feminist is a profoundly personal decision, colored by the nuances of our own experiences. In The Feminine Mystique, the great Betty Friedan suggested that for feminists, the personal is the political, that our private thoughts and desires necessitate public action. Because of the intimate nature of the movement, it’s easy to scrutinize judge other women, but internal strife often stalls social change. Susan B. Anthony and Lucy Stone’s ... Read More
