Last Friday night, the Tinderbox Music Festival celebrated its fourth year with performances by seventeen kickass female artists at The Music Hall of Williamsburg. Founded by singer/songwriter Alyson Greenfield in 2010, the festival serves as a platform for up and coming female artists. With acts like Deerhoof, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, Awkwafina (featured in BUST & a performer at our 20th Anniversary Party), this year did not disappoint. Read More

I’ve seen most of the nominated films, watched the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards, and now the pressure is on for The Academy Awards on Sunday. This year’s nominees are filled with phenomenal women with diverse ages, looks, and levels of experience in the business.
The category that is perhaps the most conflicting for me is Best Actress. Who do we root for: 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis, 86 year old Emmanuelle Riva, up-and-comer Jennifer Lawrence, Bin Laden headhunter Jessica Chastain, or two-time nominee Naomi Watts? My pick is Jennifer Lawrence. Read More

With the new James Bond film, Skyfall, opening in theatres on November 9th, it’s time for a new jam to accompany it. As one of the most successful artists to come out of the UK, Adele was the obvious choice to sing the signature theme song for this installment of the franchise. And of course, her classic lady-crooner sound works perfectly with the classy feel of the Bond films. Read More

Kate Moss, Agyness Deyn, Emma Watson, and now…Adele?
British Vogue reports that Adele may collaborate with British luxury fashion house Burberry on a plus-size line.
According to British Vogue, Burberry creative director Christopher Bailey personally approached Adele to become a Burberry ambassador, and Adele responded by asking if Burberry would collaborate with her on a plus-size collection.
Her request seems pretty reasonable. If Burberry asked Adele to represent them, they should probably start carrying more clothes that might, you know, fit her. Read More

VH1 counted down their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music last week, and while I feel some ladies were overlooked and others given a spot they shouldn't have, I do applaud VH1 for recognizing the contributions that female musicians have made to the music industry.
The list spans the past two decades— wow, has it really been that long since the 90s? Many of the ladies on this list broke musical barriers, fighting their way into arenas that were usually male-dominated, and their influence paved the way for some of this generation’s greatest performers. I have totally and completely fallen in love with Adele, the Cockney-accented diva (or diva-to-be, as the already-celebrated songstress is only 23 years old). Though I am still mourning Whitney, I was giddy about how elegant Adele looked in her vintage-inspired dresses while winning 6 Grammys last night (including the coveted Album of the Year award for 21). My friend commented that Adele was channeling fellow foxy Brit Kate Winslet with her new blonde 'do, and I had to agree. She was f*cking fierce. Read More

It's the most wonderful time of the year--you know, when every magazine, blog, and 13-year-old with a Tumblr compiles a "best of 2011" list and makes you feel old and out of touch for not having heard of half of the people on it. So hold on to your butts, because BUST is jumping into the fray with our very own Best of 2011 Spotify playlist. Yeah, Drake is on it. I'm just as ashamed as you are. Click here to listen and subscribe!Notable omissions: "212" by Azealia Banks, which runs circles around Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass." Unfortunately, Ms. Read More

It’s Adele’s world-- we all just live in it. Apparently no one can resist the charms of the green-eyed songstress. She’s sold more than 4 million copies of her second album, 21, thanks to her widespread appeal. Even your grandma loves her, right? Now Billboard’s crowned her the Top Artist of the Year along with Number One Song and Album of the Year honors. Not too shabby, considering it’s the first time ever a woman has earned herself the triple crown.
It’s easy to see why everyone loves her. Read More
