An extremely talented woman was denied a film role because of her age, AGAIN. What the f*ck, Hollywood?! In a recent interview with TheWrap, Maggie Gyllenahaal spoke about this absurdity, stating, “I’m 37 and I was told recently I was too old to play the lover of a man who was 55.” That’s an eighteen-year age difference. Good news is rolling in on the abortion front from, of all places, Birmingham, Alabama!  On Monday, a federal judge ruled that a new Alabama law—which would restrict doctors who perform abortions and force several women’s clinics to shut down—placed unconstitutional restrictions on a woman’s right to choose. Like the rest of you, I was incredibly excited to binge watch (and complete) the second season of Orange Is the New Black on Netflix this past weekend. There has been a significant shift from character-based story lines to episodes revolving around daily prison operations and how they inflict hardships on the female prisoners. Believe it or not, women are the last group subject to a blanket exclusion in the military since the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. Despite how much the nature of warfare has changed over the last decade, women in the US Military are still not allowed to engage in ground combat or situations where they will be exposed to hostile fire. Four veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are trying to change this outdated law by suing the Department of Defense. Read More
