Babes in Toyland are back! Once dubbed "foxcore" by Thurston Moore -- a label the Babes did not appreciate, the Minneapolis-based, babydoll dress-wearing, punk power trio that ground guts onstage in the nineties have reunited their Fontenella-era lineup for a show, presumably to kick off a bitchin' tour, in L.A. at the Roxy on February 12th.
The 18 years since Kat Bjelland, Maureen Herman and Lori Barbero last stepped on stage together cannot be described as ... Read More

My first experience with a Walkman is forever burned into my memory. My mom and I went to some local mixed-media store that has since gone out of business, and I begged her to shell out the dollars so I could listen to my Spice Girls in isolated bliss. My player of choice was bright red and had a Mickey-head shaped window to view the magical spinning of those cassette wheels. I put on my headphones, pressed the massive plastic play button, and yelled to my mom "WOW ... Read More

It does not surprise me that Jon Hamm sported a wispy middle part in the 90's, considering that it was the most popular haircut of the decade. However, because Hamm didn't reach the peak of his stardom until more than a decade later, as the part of debonair Don Draper on the show Mad Men, his hairdo has made viral waves after a video clip of his appearance on dating show, The Big Date, was exposed yesterday.
Since Hamm is so closely associated with his ... Read More

Seeing Katie Crutchfield perform live might make you fall in love with her immediately. Although her lo-fi recordings are just as powerful, there’s something about hearing her croon her devastatingly raw, honest lyrics in person that can’t compare to at-home listening. The Birmingham, Alabama native has been hard at work crafting indie punk jams since her teens, notably pop-punk band P.S. Eliot with her twin sister Allison. After P.S. Eliot called it ... Read More

So I have this insignificance of an Afro that I am trying to grow out, Angela Davis-style. Lately, though, I have been getting tired of looking at it. It's not that I hate it---I love my hair---but I have dyed it every color you can think of and I'm looking for something different and fun for the rest of the winter.
Ever watch Poetic Justice? You know, the movie where Tupac and Janet Jackson make an intense love connection? Well, Ms. Jackson--cause I'm nasty--has ... Read More

I've recently discovered the Found Footage Fest's Youtube channel. And man, is it filled with an enormous amount of bizarre, low quality video clips. Most of the footage featured is extremely strange. I'm not sure if it's the early-nineties aesthetics or, the creepy synth music, but they're all transfixing. The channel features video footage that you would probably find at a yard sale, or a garbage dump somewhere if they weren't rescued by FFF, and so lovingly ... Read More
