Angel Haze and Ireland Baldwin have CONFIRMED that they are dating! The 22-year-old rapper and the 18-year-old model (daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger) were first introduced at this past New York Fashion Week and have been together ever since. But, Haze seems to think that media has a problem with interracial lesbian couples.
Haze, who is performing at Glastonbury with Kanye West this weekend, has been challenging Hip-Hop’s misogyny by simply existing. And now, she seems to be challenging the American Media’s viewpoints on girl-on-girl couples. The media – who has been calling Haze and Baldwin “best friends” since they started dating – seems to refuse to acknowledge that an interracial lesbian couple exists. In an interview with The Independent, Haze says the following on the matter:
It’s weird, it hasn’t worked that way. I don’t know if there’s like some confirm or deny thing with the way relationships work in the media, but everyone just calls us best friends, best friends for life, like we’re just friends hanging out. It’s funny.
There are still certain limitations for women. If we were two guys, it’d be insane, negatively insane with the attention. With us, it’s all being very positive. The media are like, ‘Oh they’re so cute, they’re best friends’. An interracial gay couple, I mean that’s just weird for America right now. We f**k and friends don’t f**k. I have never f**ked one of my friends.
Dear America, Haze doesn’t f**k her friends, so how about giving her the proper coverage she deserves? Misnaming her relationship with Baldwin is erasure, and if there’s one thing queer women of color don’t need any more of, it’s that.
