Did you just drop your panties and realize you forgot to stop by Duane Reade on your way home? Have no fear my feisty friends, because L. will readily send a bicycle delivery woman or man anywhere in Manhattan to hand you a box of high quality condoms in an hour or less, for a flat rate of $8. Could it get any better than that? Yes, because for every condom you buy, a condom is distributed to high-need areas, adhering to L.'s 1-to-1/buy-one-give-one policy.
L. was founded by the greatly intelligent and amazingly motivated Talia Frenkel, "a photojournalist, who is out to change what she saw through her lens by creating an opportunity for daily actions to make a difference." A very noble undertaking!
The non-profit's core mission is the empowerment and sexual health of women and girls around the world. As a photojournalist, Frenkel cover stories about the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, which inspired her to do something about it, because unlike natural disasters, cancers, or other hard to contain tragedies, HIV/AIDS is entirely preventative with access to quality protection. Condoms really are an under sung hero of sexual health. One little latex (or natural) barrier can really make a world of difference, and a difference in the world.
L.'s innovative approach to sexual health is a fresh take on an old and ever-growing problem, and there is really no reason not to get behind their mission. This model of charity, which benefits the consumer while simultaneously benefiting communities in need, is a nearly effortless way to support a no-bullshit cause. I mean, you're going to buy condoms anyway (right?!), so why not buy condoms with a purpose?
