I still don't know what hit me, even two days after experiencing all that is a Quintron and Miss Pussycat show. The New Orleans-based art rockers (which essentially consists of a one-man band and a Maraca-playing backup singer) played Santos Party House, the NYC venue owned by previous BUST Boy du Jour, Andrew W.K. He was the host with the most Monday night, and did his best to hawk the $4 Budweiser specials to a packed house. Here he is, looking snazzy in what a...

What better way to depict the terrifying downward spiral of mental illness than in a graphic novel? Nate Powell 's story of a brother and sister dealing with schizophrenia is both heartrending and beautiful. Ruth and Perry are both haunted by visions and compulsions, but as they grow older one gets worse and one gets better. Powell's art captures the loss of control and the visions of the characters in surrealist black-and-white, rendering even a frog and the grandmother sinister and threatening. You need not have experienced...

One of my absolute favorite movies is on TCM tonight at 9, Freaks (1932), and it is so delightfully wrong, I promise you won't be able to tear yourself away. Set your Tivo's, as TCM is in the midst of 48 hours of great Horror flicks, including The Devil Doll, Mad Love and the original Cat People....

AWESOME D.I.Y. TAGGING CREW! Check out the Obama-Rama Swing State '08 Tour. A group of inspired artists and producers with a long history of developing emerging forms of communications at the crossroads of music, art and media had brilliantly decided to take matters into their own hands. They are tagging/projecting videos and images to draw attention on the man they hope the undecided will vote for in the swing states of America....

Hello to all you art lovers out there, please do yourselves a favor and check out www.littlepaperplanes.com ! You can find beautiful hand made books and zines, clothing, jewelry, bags, and most importantly incredibly cheap high quality prints (both digital and hand made) that make owning a piece of art accessible to all. The sight sells the work of...

I have a new art crush. Joelle Jones won me over in about .2 seconds with her work on this newest Minx graphic novel. I must admit I feel a kinship with the protagonist, Shira, a curvy Jewish girl with short hair, retro style, and a closer relationship with her grandmother's best friend than with girls her own age. Alisa Kwitney 's story is a typical high-school love tale but it's got heart, a winning character (and I swear I'm not saying that because she...

Nate Hill has been sewing together body parts for the last six months, but not in a Silence of the Lambs people-jacket sort of way. He's an artist using animal parts to create a life-sized female body for his newest project, called E.V.E. (Earthly View of Eden). The companion to his A.D.A.M. Project will be on display in a Halloween show at The Silent Barn. What better way to celebrate the holiday? More information at http://www.stoproadkill.org/...
