Yeah, you've heard their ridiculously catchy tune 'Bruises' on that iPod commercial but seriously, this Brooklyn-based trio is so much more than that. I caught their show at the Williamsburg Music Hall awhile back when they opened for Yeasayer (LOVE!) and it says a lot when the first band draws as big a crowd as the headliner. Go catch them on their new tour that kicks off this week (click here for dates), especially to see keyboardist/vocalist Caroline Polachek in...

Ladies Lotto is proud to be sponsoring Glowlab's Benefit Exhibition for SWOON'S Swimming Cities of Serenissima at Fountain New York beginning Thursday, March 5th. This exhibit, by artist SWOON, will feature a fleet of three hand crafted vessels that will navigate the Adriatic Sea, beginning in the Karst region of Slovenia and ending in Venice, Italy in May of 2009. Designed by the visual artist SWOON, the floating sculptures are descendants of the Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea (Hudson River, 2008) and the Miss Rockaway...

I watch The Bachelor. And not just off-handedly while flipping channels, or once in awhile if I happen to be home. On Mondays I make a point to have dinner made by 8 so I can give each episode (and the adult beverages my friend Amber always brings over) my full attention. This garners me endless teasing from my boyfriend and I've only recently come to terms with admitting my slight obsession to friends. But I can't help it, I'm hooked. The show is...

Prolific Japanese artist Nagi Noda has created some awe inspiring works, from her short films to her photography to her fashion line but I think it is safe to say these hats take the cake. Noda created these hats using the models own hair so all you need is a blow up picture of a dolphin and a can of hair spray to complete your Friday night ensemble. Check out the pictures up close here. xo, Alison. Ed. note. Whats tragic is that this brilliant...

While doing a little early Spring cleaning, i unearthed 3 converse shoeboxes of old mixtapes. Some probably haven't been listened to in over 10 years. Most are covered with various stickers, magazine cut outs, and sparkley nail polish. A lot are from ex boyfriends and bff's, (so bittersweetly nostaligic), one was a homemade demo from my very shortlived surf rock band, The Shortwaves (fact!), and others were random mixes I made for trips and specific bus rides. I do have a cassette tape player, but...

New Lady Sov video! Lady Sovereign - So Human I love that crazy block necklace she is wearing. I think this is my fav song off the album. Check out my interview with her in the April/May issue of BUST coming soon! ...

Don't miss checking out some of the up-and-coming Brooklyn designers this weekend. It truly is where fashion meets art.  The presentations are anything but ordinary or predictable, with show-specific live music scores and artist performances. The Williamsburg Fashion Weekend is happening tonight and Saturday night at Glasslands Gallery and it's only 8 bucks at the door! Some designers include SDN , Mandate of Heaven , Treehouse and more! ...

In anticipation for their upcoming album, It's Blitz!, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have released a brand new track, Zero, and it's available for streaming on their myspace! According to the band, the new record is way more experimental than previous releases. I'm willing to bet it's going to be another outstanding production from one of our favorite rock bands. Let the countdown begin! ...
I'll admit: I don't really get modern art. And I especially don't get Heide Hatry's art. Hatry is an artist who sculpts using clay and raw meat. In one series, Meat after Meat Joy (Meat Joy was a 1964 performance piece and I really don't get the art of performance art), Hatry created an American flag out of meat, complete with maggots. Okay, fine, it lacks subtlety, but let's assume she was going for a blunt and shocking political statement. Heads and Tales , her newest exhibition,...

For the first time in America, Mr. Gainsbourg's masterpiece Histoire de Melody Nelson is being released! Recorded in 1971 with the help of his uber-sexy muse Jane Birkin, this remastered work comes with all sorts of goodies, including a Q&A interview and the albums original artwork. This is a serious piece of music history, I am definitely putting my name on the pre-order list and you can too by going here! You're welcome. ...
