Celeb Haterade

Female celebrity musicians generally look as though they get along, but last night there was a rift. They seemed to sense a threat. Rhianna, Katy Perry, and Ke$ha all reportedly acted like they were friends with rap artist Nicki Minaj, and then started taunting her. Each groped her butt and then laughed about how fake it was. This was Nicki’s first time at the American Music Awards, and I doubt she expected such a two-faced welcome from her fellow female ... Read More
“I prefer the women because we have a different aesthetic than the men” My great-aunt passed away last month, but because she chose to be cremated the ceremony was this weekend. It was a two parter, with a party to celebrate her life on Saturday and a proper burial on Sunday. I lived with Carol for several months last year and got to know her well. She was an artist and an adamant feminist. She grew up like a woman born in the 1930’s ... Read More
I interviewed a friend of mine who is a dominatrix, because I was curious about whether she finds her job empowering and what made her get into it. She was kind enough to answer my questions candidly, providing insight into a world I know relatively nothing about.  1. How did you get into being a dominatrix? I've always been a pervert. When I moved to New York, I pretty much immediately started going to burlesque shows, which are closely tied into local ... Read More
The New Beauty Magazine advocates plastic surgery as the sole way to become “beautiful”. In the current issue Megan Fox’s face is dissected using Leonardo da Vinci’s rule of thirds to summarize “why she is hot”. Essentially, her brow arches up at the highest point of her “feline-like” eye. She has high cheekbones. Her lower lip is slightly larger than the top. Her neck has a youthful contour, and her jaw is ... Read More
This phrase was originally used to describe unfairness regarding minority education, but it could easily be used to explain the current climate of women in politics. Blame Sarah Palin, but it seems that women who want attention for their campaign are becoming more like parodies of America than actual leaders. There is a leap before you look, celebratory ignorance being championed by Christine O’Donnell and Sarah Palin that seems indicative of America ... Read More
Kim Kardashian posed nude on the cover of this month’s W Magazine. The reality persona is known for her sex tape with Ray J, the TV show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and general socialite antics. Kim Kardashian interests me, as she must interest most of America, which would explain her popularity. Though this woman is by no means a shrinking violet, there’s something about her I find neurotic. I have no idea what Kim is like in real ... Read More
My Hulu wanderings led me to the “Chicken Ranch,” a documentary film about a legal brothel just outside Nevada. The documentary uncovers life inside the house, and gives a look into the psychology of the women who have to earn their living there. It reminded me a bit of “Paris is Burning,” in terms of sex being the deciding factor in how the subjects were going to live their lives. It could be gathered that all of the subjects were forced ... For the first time since about 1910, the percentage of adults age 25-34 who have never been married has exceeded those who have. The numbers are close, with something like 46.3% who have never been married and 44.9% who have. It is interesting to note that those who are less educated are also less apt to get married, which differs from the 1990s, when the opposite was true. Mark Mather, who analyzed the data from the Population Reference Bureau, says: ... Read More
Mehran is a six-year-old Afghani girl who is being raised by her parents as a boy. This phenomenon is called bacha posh, and translates to “girl in boy’s clothes”. In Afghanistan boys are valued higher than girls; they are able to carry their father’s name and be privy to his inheritance. Women are alienated from any kind of social standing and not really even allowed to be seen let alone walk freely. Bacha posh looks to remedy this, ... Read More
Reporter Ines Sainz was scheduled to interview Mark Sanchez of the NY Jets, when she got a little more attention than she bargained for. Ines, a reporter for Azteca TV (a Mexican station) and a former Miss Spain pageant queen, was the alleged victim of sexual harassment. She was "cat-called" as well as whistled and stared out while at Jets Florham Park. Ines has been criticized for being dressed inappropriately, although she was wearing jeans and a tee ... Read More
