Horse is woman’s best friend. There is something so magical about a horse; I will always remember my first horse show, the smell of de-tangler, and my pony’s perfectly stunning braids. The majestic, ethereal horse!
Since I have spent my entire life strictly following the beauty routine I learned from my horses (a hairbrush? what’s that?), I was thrilled to find out about some new horsie hairstyles. The Norwegian Fjord horse, a breed that’s been around for over four thousand years, has a great 'do. Read More
The completely magical, fantastical drag and burlesque superstar The World Famous *BOB* is hosting an Onstage Beauty/Drag Basics class at the New York School of Burlesque tomorrow, Friday the 28th of August at 6:00 PM. The class will be super fun and informative. I have often coveted the stunning beauty and poise characteristic of drag stars (I myself never wear make-up), and now we can all have the chance to learn the secrets of the biz, like how to design flawless wigs and apply pesky false eyelashes!
Plus: proceeds from the event will go to a great cause. Read More
I was a little girl when TLC came on the scene, and I wish someone had introduced my childhood self to the unbelievable R&B girl band. Sadly, I didn’t discover them until last year (while watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta, I’m embarrassed to admit). Band members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Kandi Buruss are so talented; together, they create saucy, biting, and brave music. Read More
Catwoman is my favorite superhero (or villain, depending on how you see her), but Batman is a close second. Before Marvel, DC Comics was the premier comic book empire, producing the ever-compelling Superman comics. When Marvel entered the scene, the came out with less “All American” and boy scout-y characters, embracing the more dark and twisted side to heroism. We saw pain and personal motives in the Marvel characters, and we liked it. Read More
Remember when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the Golden Globes? Let me jog your memory: it felt kind of like it did when the cool, older kids let you hang out with them after school. The duo was laugh-out-loud hilarious and totally down to earth. They turned the long, potentially boring award show into a night of spicy jokes and tomfoolery.
The bad news: they indicated that they didn't plan on a repeat performance. NBC, thankfully, is refusing to take “no” for an answer, and the network cautiously extended an invite to the duo. Read More
Designers... Project Runway is now casting Season 13!
The groundbreaking competition series has been the starting point of some of the country’s top designers (Christian Siriano, anyone?), and it is now sweeping the nation in search of its next star. This year, the series is proud to offer contestants the chance to show their work at New York Fashion Week and to win $100,000 or more to launch or expand their fashion line. Read More
Are you sitting down? Because this news is a game-changer: World of Wonder is producing a webseries called RuPaul Drives. In the show, the amazing queen of drag RuPaul takes special hitchhikers/friends/celebrities on drives (get it? drive as in "drag" race?). With RuPaul behind the wheel, guests will chat. They’ll just chat, that simple. And Ru will give passangers a chance to joke, philosophize, and confide in him: “Everyone in LA needs a lift, both spiritually and physically." The potential for humor, spontaneity, and meaningful insight abounds. Read More
Yesterday, my fiance and I applied for our very first apartment. Hello, excitement, stress, and other emotions I don’t even think have words attached to them. The apartment is in a small college town where I went to school, a town we call “The Twilight Zone Town” because it is so idyllic and magical to us. Even though we don’t know if we will get the apartment, the place already feels like the home we’ve always wanted. The two of us moved around a lot during our teenage years, and this place just feels like it could really be ours. Read More
The queen of everything country, Dolly Parton, recently chatted with Alecia Davis of “Extra” and confronted issues she’s had to deal with her whole professional career: rumors and gossip. Parton is remarkably composed and eloquent when asked about the circulating whispers of an esophageal cancer scare, smiling and firmly stating, “I will not make comment on some story in a rag magazine! I’m fine!” And she certainly seems it, perfectly coiffed and totally at home in her Dollywood theme park. Read More
There’s nothing quite like throwing an incredible pitch. I should know: I was the designated “pitch counter” for my high school’s softball team. No one warmed that bench quite like I did. But seriously, there’s something so triumphant in a great pitch, and such a pitch was thrown at a recent Doosan Bears game by South Korean actress and superstar taekwondo expert Tae Mi. Her athleticism is astounding, and when you see her epic first pitch, you might literally jump out of your seat and do a flip yourself.
And the crowd goes wild. Read More
