This S#!t is Yonanas!
Ice cream makes up a frightfully large portion of my diet; I average a quart per week (even more during summer months), and the only thing I worry about more than ending up on Freaky Eaters is contracting scurvy. But I’ve found a healthier way to enjoy my favorite dessert: Yonanas. I'm in love.
It may look like some sort of sexual torture device, but Yonanas is a kitchen appliance that transforms bananas (which I generally only like when they are covered in chocolate) and other frozen fruit into bowls of delicious sorbet-like goodness. We got a couple of Yonanas machines in the BUST office the other day, and had a blast mixing ingredients and chowing down on cold, creamy combos like strawberry-banana, mango-pineapple, and pumpkin with ginger snap cookie pieces.
Looks like baby food, tastes like a chilled piece of heaven.
At first I was skeptical, wondering Why not use a blender?; also, I have a strong distaste for anything that reminds me of sausage being made (seriously, every time I look away from No Reservations, then look back up and see Anthony Bourdain making sausage, a piece of my soul dies and is squeezed out into a casing of sadness). But you simply can’t get the soft-serve consistency that Yonanas creates with a blender. At $50, the price is comparable to or better than a really bad-ass blender, and way more cost-efficient than the pints I go through every day, er, I mean, year. It’s awesome for vegans and kids, and super easy to use and clean.

It may look as if eating Yonanas has melted my face into a Tommy Wiseau mask, but trust me, I am really enjoying my spoonful of pumpkin-banana-ginger snap and my bangs are just sweating it for me.

I have already added a Yonanas to my Christmas list, and I hope that together we can make 2012 a more nutritious year. Of course, I’ve also already considered the dietary evil I could do with it (my first thought regarding almost anything is Can I put bacon in that?), but I’m pretty psyched to find new ways to get my recommended daily serving of fruits, veggies, and vitamins. Looks like maybe my local Mr. Softee truck driver won’t have to stage that intervention after all.
