Once upon a time I met a beautiful Polish girl with killer blonde locks who had a penchant for photo negatives, her golden dog and art in most forms. She used to come to New York on the weekends and work at a museum in Connecticut during the weeks. After traveling to Poland, Berlin, Russia and more places I can't remember she decided to meet up with her partner in Paris and make a go of this business of collaboration, empowerment and curation in the art world. They call themselves HALFSLANT
. They've done things like set up a residency for artists in Poland - which you can see here
And this week they'll play a huge role in the first ever CHIC ART FAIR
; collaborating on the exhibit: "The Commercial Center Sans Commerce: Before the Shops, the Dreamers."
The CHIC ART FAIR itself is an idea from two women named Cécile Griesmar and Sandrine Bisognin. The two ladies wanted to "specifically center their interest around the work of young artists in order to help a new 'discourse' emerge."
Upon entering the Commercial Center, the 24H Pharmacy is always open but with only one thing available: a huge pink Cotton-Swab by artist David Miguel (Art Business CD/Christophe Delavault) which represents the idea of hygienic relief on a massive scale.
What is a high end boutique in a place where you cannot spend any money? Dan Wilcox, Elena Damiano, Misti Boettiger and troupe of actors explore this in their improvisational performance, A Votre Service, where performers greet shoppers with the dream object that only the employees can see in The Dream Object Boutique [L’Objet Rêvé].
In addition to these two displays of enchantment there will be many more pieces of whimsy to experience.
CHIC ART FAIR
takes place from October 22-25 at the Cite de la Mode et du Design in Paris, France.
