Burrito Cake

BY Dawn in General

This weekend I'll be celebrating a belly that has been full of beans and cheese for 26 years, and I really need to have this cake made by Amanda Leamons . The tortilla chips are made out of fondant!!! But I realize my chances are as thin as a finely sliced avocado, which is why I'll be taking baking classes over this next year. By next August, I'll be able to bake this cake myself, and not share with anyone. Read More
This Saturday, my favorite noise punks, Parts and Labor are performing as part of a three band round robin with Aa and Pterodactyl! All three bands will be set up simultaenously, with the audience in the middle, as they trade off on songs. It'll be epic, and you you will be there. I'm pretty stoked about seeing the new Parts and Labor lineup. Read More
Big news! At Your Cervix , a documentary aiming to improve pelvic exams for women, was chosen as one of 8 finalists from over 100 ideas on Ideablob.com! We blogged about them last week, and since then, the filmmakers have made it one step closer to winning the $10,000 grand prize, and it was no doubt largely thanks to the BUST readers that made sure to get their votes in! Voting for the finals is happening NOW and continues until Aug 31 at midnight. Read More

More free shows!

BY Dawn in General

Looks like it's an entire weekend of free shows with our best BUST band friends! This Sunday, Heloise and the Savoir Faire will be playing a free show at Music Hall of Williamsburg, (this place is kind of becoming my favorite spot), after the McCarren Pool Party. You may recognize Heloise from the feature we did on her in BUST, and from her performaces at our February issue release party and the BUST SXSW Hangover Lounge Party this year! She's a sassy lady and can belt out a mean soulful note. Read More

The rad art of Maya Hayuk!

BY Dawn in General

Maya Hayuk is a Brooklyn based muralist, photographer, painter, music video creator and all around bad-ass. I'd seen her impressive murals before, but had no idea that her art was so expansive until Alison F. sent me this fascinating/funny/inspiring video interview she did with Etsy. Wth a heavy focus on environmental art, Maya's work reflects a collaboration between architecture, and the surrounding community that her art lives in. Not only is Maya a popular muralist, but she's also an accomplished rock poster, t-shirt, and book designer. Read More

Help At Your Cervix!

BY Dawn in General

At Your Cervix is a documentary film in progress exploring the connection between pelvic exams and the reality that most women experience them as painful and disempowering. The film breaks the silence around the unethical methods used by medical schools to teach students how to perform pelvic exams; the most egregious being on unconsenting, anesthetized women. The Tiddy Bear!!!

BY Dawn in General

About a year ago I saw this infomercial and was confused, intrigued, but also completely amused. I had forgotten about it until recently when former 'tern, Alison F. reminded me of it's weirdness. But although this commercial seems strange, it is not a joke! For too many years, drivers and passengers have suffered from the stiffness of their seat belts cutting into their shoulders. This has been a serious problem, and thank goodness somebody has finally come up with the perfect solution. Read More

15-Year Party Wrap Up!

BY Dawn in General

Thank you to everyone who joined BUST in blowing out the birthday candles with us at our 15-Year Anniversary Party! I can't explain the venue, Spiegelworld, as anything but breath-taking. With a full180 degree  view of Manhattan and Brooklyn, the waterfront setting that was complete with hammocks, cabanas, an outdoor dance floor, and 3 circus tents (!!!) was absolutely unbelievable. JD Samson (MEN/Le Tigre) got things started right on the turntables. As people began fill the venue, guests immediately started snapping pix at the free Dr. Read More
