Graduation season is upon us which means one thing: graduation parties galore. Amongst the plethora of yard games and buffet style food lines, there’s one thing that drives me crazy, and that is finding the perfect grad gift. Whether it’s the young girls I used to mentor graduating high school or my best friend in the world graduating from college, the thought of finding them an appropriate gift baffles me.
Using my extensive resources (asking my mom for help) and a little brain storming, I put together this list of great gifts any girl would love. I think graduation is the perfect time to tell a girl you love that she will become a strong, successful woman and that you believe in her. So if you choose to forgo Oh the Places You’ll Go this season, here’s a list of great gifts for graduation.
1. An Inspirational Quote Poster
She Believed She Could So She Did Print by LilleMusStudio
Prints like this help transition your little fledgling into adulthood by providing them with something to customize their dorm room or first apartment. By giving your girl a quote, they’ll think of you whenever they need an inspirational boost.
2. A Book by a Strong, Successful Woman
#GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso
Books about strong women provide anecdotes and advice that can stick with a girl for her whole life. Whether your girl is a Bossypants or wants to Lean in, books can provide guidance when you can’t.
3. Something Nostalgic or Homemade
The best gift I received for my high school graduation was a pillow my cousin made me with pictures printed on to the fabric and sewn on. Sometimes the greatest gift is something personal that you and your grad share.
Chevron Luggage from Overstock
Take it from a poor college student: Every grad needs luggage. College can be the perfect time to travel abroad or even just traveling back and forth between home and school can surface a need for a suitcase set.
5. A Tool Kit
105 Piece Tool Kit
One of the best gifts my friend Robin received was a combined tool/sewing kit with the message “This is everything you will need to take care of yourself.” You’re literally giving a girl the tools to solve problems, how cool is that!
