On Saturday night Leslie Hall, of Leslie & The LY's, took to the stage at The Knitting Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and charmed the pants off of every single member of the audience. (Well, not really. She did express her disappointment in how few pairs of pants were actually removed and tossed her way during her ultra-fun song “No Pants Policy”).
But it’s the high energy and lovable presence of Leslie that captivates her crowd and pretty much demands that they reach her level of impossibly positive party vibes. I mean come on, Shazam! She’s glamorous after all.
Hailing from Ames, Iowa, Leslie & The LY's are so much more than simply a comedy pop/hip hop group; they are a worldly source of shimmering and sequined promoters of mind and body positivity. They provide their audience with an encouragement to just let it all go and laugh at stupid shit - a reminder we could all benefit from hearing more often. You really can’t take yourself (or anything else, for that matter) too seriously at an L&LY show.
They are currently on tour through March, gracing the Midwest and beyond to promote their most recent album, Songs In The Key Of Gold, released in December 2013. Remixed and produced by mashup extraordinaire, Titus Jones, it’s a remix record of all your fave Leslie tunes, some in need of a serious kick up (“Power Cuddle”) and others just a fabulous makeover (“Blame The Booty”).
The live show is a lesson in campy performance art, and cannot be missed. If you’re deeply craving an experience that includes gold Spandex body suits, a jack-in-the-box pop up band, an ode to a beloved cat named Shania, and an all-around no-holds-barred dance party, you should seriously check out Leslie & The LY's in person.
While you're at it, why not go all in and join the die-hard Leslie fans (or Junior Gems) and dress to the nines in outfits inspired by the ultra trendy-chic costumes the group is known for; Spandex pants, galaxy shirts, hand-gemmed sweaters, huge smiles, and sweaty hairlines? Get your high kicks ready, people!
