Having lived on the east coast my whole life, I think I know how to handle a hurricane. Just when I thought we were in the clear for this year’s hurricane season, along comes Sandy in her modest cardigan and purity ring, ready to cause some trouble at Rydell High (and by Rydell High I mean the Mid-Atlantic). This hybrid storm, (“part tropical, all beast” as the Philadelphia Inquirer put it) comes just days ahead of Halloween, much like the early ... Read More
Jane Austen isn’t everyone’s cup of high tea. Some of my high school friends were on the brink of burning their copies of Emma during honors lit senior year (due to the amount of work involved in studying the novel rather than the actual content). To make Austen a bit more relatable for this day and age, Hank Green and Bernie Su have created a web series adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, aptly named The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. This series ...   Deep breath, BUST.com readers. You might want to have a seat before you read this post.   Following the trend of awful comments about rape that male politicians have been making recently, Rep. Roger Rivard (R, Wisconsin) told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that, “some girls just rape easy” in an interview Wednesday. More than 9,000 poor or uninsured women were given a choice of birth control methods available at no cost as part of the study conducted by the University of Washington in St. Louis on Thursday. The availability of free birth control led to only 4.4 to 7.5 abortions per 1,000 ... Read More

In “What Century is this Again?” news, a TIME.com article said today that Hong Kong tycoon has offered nearly $65 million to any man willing to marry his daughter. This is no simple (though outdated) case of a father offering a dowry for his daughter. Cecil Chao Sze-tsung’s daughter Gigi is already married...to her longtime girlfriend, Sean Yeung.   Hong Kong does not recognize same-sex unions, so Gigi married Yeung in Paris in April. ...
