Multi-faceted artist Hannah Lew has been having quite a year. After a group consensus to put her post-punk band, Grass Widow, on the backburner, Lew has been spending her time starting her own record label, making music videos, and forming new musical projects with fellow Bay Area musicians. Lately the bassist, visual artist and filmmaker’s main focus has been her new band, Cold Beat. Lew acts as the sole lyricist and vocalist of Cold Beat, whose debut full-length album, Over Me dropped just last week on her label Crime on the Moon. Read More

On "Reverse" a combination of driving drumbeats and evil guitar riffs get the fuse lit with a perfect two-and-a-half minute burst of fiery punk rock. "Null" follows suit, channeling the aforementioned Los Angeles punk band with trade-off male/female sing-chanting. Read More

Why does a handmade sweater cost $250, while the knockoff version costs less than a grande latte? The answer is complicated, and after reading this, you may change the way you shop—forever. Over the past few years, the duo went far to promote an image that made their name one to be remembered. Lead singer Leyla  “Lo” Safai dons a pink stripe across her eyes, they travel across the country in a Swarovski crystal-covered ice cream truck, and they leave eye-striped stuffed animals hanging around the country. We interviewed Gillian Robespierre and Elisabeth Holm, the writer/director of Obvious Child, a film about much more than abortion stigma. This new modern-day, feminist flick not only reconstitutes the traditional rom-com, but its underrated content has also sparked the kind of movement and dialogue we've all been waiting for.  If you haven't seen the film, there ARE spoilers in this interview, so beware. Apart from her amazing performance in her band White Lung, it was Mish Way's unabashed admiration for Courtney Love that first endeared her to me.  For all her faults, Courtney taught a generation of girls that women could be wild rock stars too.
