As conservative politicians continue to litter the world with disgusting and offensive sound bites about women, it's a relief to finally hear someone talk some sense. And an even bigger relief when that person is the President. Speaking about women and the economy this morning, President Obama reiterated the should-be-totally-obvious fact that women are actual individuals! He stated, "There’s been a lot of talk about women and women’s issues lately, as there should be. But I do think that the conversation has been oversimplified. Women are not some monolithic bloc.

Despite my issues with TIME magazine, I love the annual “Most Influential” people list. Maybe it’s because it brings to my attention people around the world who are making changes (both positive and negative), or maybe it’s because they named me “Person of the Year” in 2006. Though TIME has yet to honor me and my greatness since 2006, they’ve honored more upstanding women than myself for 2012.

It's campaign season, so y'all know what that means… PRESIDENTIAL BARBIES!!! Pre-orders for the "I Can Be…President Barbie"doll began yesterday. This is the fifth re-incarnation of President Barbie, and this time she's available in a variety of versions that aim to be more representative of all girls.  This week saw more and more politicians throwing their support behind Hillary in 2016, making Mattel's rendition even more compelling.

The Hunger Games are maybe the antithesis of anything hipster--a multi-million dollar blockbuster written for twelve year olds and playing at only the most mainstream of multiplexes? Definitely not standard hipster fare. For some reason, though, the young adult series has really struck a chord in my circle of tattooed, bespectacled, bicycle-riding twenty-something friend group. We can't get enough of Katniss Everdeen. Reading the books, I couldn't help but wonder how my friends and I would do in a fight to the death.

Brooklyn-based jewelry designer, Shanna Nash describes her SNASH JEWELRY collection as rugged, unisex designs that incorporated “monsters-eating-snacks-in-molten-metal, siamese-deer-and-other-natural-oddities…for those that embrace the weird around them.” And here at BUST, we can’t get enough. Check out SNASH JEWELRY at the BUST Magazine Craftacular and Food Fair next Saturday, April 14 at 82 Mercer St. in Soho. See you there! Click here for this year’s vendor list for a peek of what you can expect at our Craftacular.

Gender disparity is a problem that's deeply engrained in our society. Within the tech industry, the numbers are staggering. Carnegie Melon University took note with their famous Dave-to-Girl ratio. After realizing the number of men named Dave in their computer science program outstripped overall females, they implemented changes to their department that would attract a broad spectrum of students. Four years later, the program boasted 40% women which goes to show that girls are just as capable as boys.

Remember when you were a young girl faced with a really tough dilemma, you thought to yourself, “If only someone could give me advice in my own, tween, rhyme-y wordplay language”? Well, someone has finally published the book you’ve been waiting for! After years of writing “Starlette Universe” as a comic in Pageantry magazine, creator Kathy Johnson has compiled a whole book that is “aimed at young girls and designed to appeal to their fashion sense, language and adventurous spirit.

I often fantasize what it'd be like if I had some direct connection to Hillary Clinton. Like, if she was my aunt or a close family friend and I could call her up anytime I needed advice or a letter of recommendation or wanted to sound off on a dude pulling Typical Man bs.    While having Hillary's phone number in my contact list is only a pipe dream, this new tumblr plays off the Texts From... meme and imagines what it'd be like if we could take a glimpse into her text inbox. I guess for now that's just going to have to do.

Keith Apicary showed up to an open audition for Kimberly Cole's music video and upstaged a room full of professionals. This video combines my love of silly uninhibited dancing, underdogs, Sega Dreamcast references, and Capri Sun.  [video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IixQox4rhEw 425x344] Well I'm stealing some moves from this guy. He's got mad swag. Turns out this ain't his first rodeo either. Keith Apicary is the b-boy alter ego of UCB comedian Nathan Barnatt. If you can't get enough of his sick skills, check out his video for Yelle's Comme Un Enfant (Freaks Remix).
