Mike Birbiglia has released three comedy albums, starred in three Comedy Central specials, is a regular contributor to This American Life, and both wrote and starred in two award-winning off-Broadway one-man shows. But even he struggles with staying professional from time to time. During filming for Sleepwalk With Me—the new movie he co-wrote, directed, and stars in based on his sleep disorders and love life—he had to make it through an unexpectedly difficult scene.

Some of you Internet users may be familiar with the ‘Idiot Nerd Girl’ meme. For those who are not, it's a meme depicting a young girl with thick plastic-framed glasses, on top of images emblazoned with a joke about what a poseur she is and how she doesn’t understand nerd culture. Examples include‘42 lolololol. Douglas Adams? Who is that? and ‘Monty Python is the funniest guy ever.' These jokes are weak because they perpetuate the already annoying stereotype that women can’t hack it in nerd subcultures.

One of our favorite actresses and funny girls, (oh *and* upcoming BUST cover girls) Aubrey Plaza, appears in a short film entitled “It’s Getting Late,” from Miu Miu’s “Women’s Tales” series.  “Women’s Tales” is a series of four videos by female directors that premieres at the Venice Film Festival this week.   The film, directed by Massy Tadjedin, also includes Patricia Clarkson, British actress Gemma Arterton, and Japanese actress Rinko Kinkuchi.

There was a breach in security at the Republican National Convention in Tampa last Wednesday, but the gatecrashers in question weren't there to get violent. The perpetrators were 21-year-old Laura Mills, a recent college graduate from Illinois' Knox College, and retired colonel Ann Wright. The two feminists are members of the women’s anti-war group, CodePink, and caused a scene to interrupt the speech of Vice President candidate, Paul Ryan.   The CodePink members waited until Ryan was eight minutes into his speech to strike.

Yoko Ono and son Sean Lennon have assembled a coalition of artists against fracking in New York, aptly named Artists Against Fracking. In case you didn't know, fracking involves using massive amounts of chemically treated water to tap into underground rock deposits, which are rich with natural gas. Although there has been research into the safety of this process, many people, like Ono, are concerned about the chemicals involved in the process and the possibility that they'll contaminate our water and air.

We're loving the fashions in these 1970s-era pictures of students at Brooklyn's Saint Joseph's College, which Flavorpill posted recently.      Many of the styles look pretty similar to the ones ladies are sporting today, like the large black-rimmed glasses, pea coats, button downs, and belted waists.  In fact, there are probably awesomely stylish girls dressed like this walking around Brooklyn right now.      There are also quintessentially 70s plaids, vests, flares, and jumpers (most likely made out of wonderful heavy polyester).

Have you ever wanted to try your hand (er, feet) at roller derby? Well now, thanks to Gotham Girls Roller Derby, whether you’re an avid player who wants to get more practice or someone who’s seen "Whip It" once, you can get some skating in. Or you know, just learn to skate, period.

Dear Style.com editors, I recently had the pleasure of reading your pre-Fashion Week slideshow. Wedged between "Is There Life After J. Crew?" and "Are You Sick of Prints Yet?", I came across a story titled "Is Lesbian Chic Here to Stay?". It was a definite eye-opener. Here I was, so focused on trivial matters like securing the freedom to marry, that I failed to realize that I am currently a fashion trend. Previously, I was under the impression that I became aware of my sexuality at the age of 11, when I began to develop crushes on girls. Now I know that I was sadly mistaken.

The GOP base is in favor of a constitutional amendment that would prohibit abortion even in cases of rape and incest, but Mitt Romney is in favor of allowing those exceptions (which is at least a step closer to moderate and/or sane). Watch Samantha Bee interview GOP delegates about how they feel about Romney’s position, and see that they do believe in the right to choose, after all. Romney’s right that is, not women’s. Obviously.

Project Runway contestants are famously petulant – a montage of their eye rolls would probably be longer than a regular episode – but last week’s tantrum by contestant Ven Budhu sparked outrage when he brought his plus-size model to tears. For the “L'Oreal Paris Makeover My Friend Challenge,” contestants had to dress non-models, a challenge that always provokes groans from the designers, who are more accustomed to standard model-size proportions.
