You could say that a Trump-themed goodie bag alone is horrendous — sure, his grumpy orange face on his less-than-politically-correct book titled Crippled America is enough to make me gag. But the RNC goes farther this year, including an ever-so-lovely reminder of their staunch stance against a woman’s right to choose — a small, plastic fetus. Yes, mixed in between the “Make America Great Again” ball cap and the crappy plastic Trump mug is a little figure called a “Young One” manufactured by the pro-life company, Heritage House.
Like many female directors, Adrienne Shelly was starting to hit her stride as she turned 40. Starting out as an actress in the New York indie scene during the 90s, Shelly soon found her way behind the camera, writing and directing. Shelly, was born Adrienne Levine to Sheldon Levine and Elaine Langbaum of Queens. She grew up mostly on Long Island, graduating from high school in Jericho, New York. She enrolled in Boston University to study film production but dropped out her junior year and moved back to New York.
The last three nights have been a mess. The kind of mess only to be produced when you gather hundreds of wealthy, racist, women-hating people, stuff them into one room, and encourage vulgarity, yelling, and overall tomfoolery. There are almost too many ridiculous things happening at and in response to the Republican National Convention to keep track, but here is a list of just five things that have really blown the top off the GOP sanity lid. 1.
The writers at Saturday Night Live have a long hilarious road ahead of them. And the only kinda positive thing to come out of the blood-curdling, screaming nightmare of the Republican campaign is we occasionally get some comedy out of it. With a long way to go until SNL returns in October, the writers couldn’t pass up the material of sheer comedy gold that the Republican National Convention hands directly to them. So the good people of NBC did a special Weekend Update with Colin Jost and Michael Che commentating on the shit show that ensued.
Here’s some exciting news: Kirsten Dunst will make her feature film directorial debut with an adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s classic 1963 novel The Bell Jar. The movie will star Dakota Fanning as Esther Greenwood. According to Deadline, production will begin in early 2017. Both Dunst and Fanning are deeply involved: Dunst co-wrote the script with Nellie Kim, and Fanning is a producer.
Helen Gurley Brown: a journalist, a benefactor, a feminist. There are a lot of reasons to love this woman, whether it's because of the sexual revolution she started with Sex and The Single Girl, the many issues of Cosmopolitan that she ran as editor-in-chief, or the amazing charitable work that's been done with the Helen Gurley Brown fund. Gurley Brown died a few years ago—a true loss for the world.
Get educated about our favorite female artists with these six books:  1. Women Street Artists of Latin America: Art Without Fear |Grafiteras y Muralistas en America Latina: Arte Sin Miedo by Rachel Cassandra and Lauren Gucik  Few books go into the work of female artists specifically, and even fewer into the work of Latin American artists. Another day, another update giving Milo Yiannopoulos an extra minute of fame that he doesn’t deserve. In response to being permanently banned from Twitter for his relentless harassment of Leslie Jones, Milo unfortunately gave a statement further polluting the world with his words. He said, “With the cowardly suspension of my account, Twitter has confirmed itself as a safe space for Muslim terrorists and Black Lives Matter extremists, but a no-go zone for conservatives.
In yet another horrifying instance of police brutality directed against black men, Charles Kinsey — a therapist at a group home in South Florida — was shot in the leg while lying on his back with his arms up, trying to calm an autistic man who was holding a toy truck. The shooting occurred on Monday, and a video filmed by a bystander was released on Wednesday, writes the Washington Post. In the video, Kinsey can be heard telling police with assault rifles, "All he has is a toy truck in his hand. A toy truck. I am a behavior therapist at a group home.
Number One Lady, Michelle Obama, graced us all with her presence in James Corden’s "Carpool Karaoke" last night and it was as incredible as you’d expect. The two jam out together, dancing and singing to Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, and Missy Elliott — who — surprise jumped into the car to groove and sing with them!! It was the best. Missy didn’t even bother to buckle up, she was strutting her moves too hard. But, groove is not all they did.
