Apparently, even infamous terrorists aren't immune to petty familial drama. Last week, Shaukat Qadir revealed that Osama bin Laden’s capture could have partially resulted from betrayal by one of his wives, Khairiah Saber, because she was jealous that Bin Laden favored and shared a room with his youngest wife. Mr. Qadir, a former Pakistani Army brigadier, has spent eight months using his old contacts to gain access to official Pakistani interrogations, which included conversations with the three wives living with Bin Laden during the May 2...
NBC’s Community is finally returning to its original time slot on NBC tonight. Even better, the newest episode, “Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts” will feature another guest appearance by Malcom-Jamal Warner as Shirley’s estranged husband. Aside from being a smart, well-acted, complex sitcom that makes me spit-take during every episode, Community’s cast and creator have been vocal about having a writing staff full of women. About half of the episodes of the second season were credited to female staff writers, including my personal favorites, “Cooperative...
For of you who don’t know, today is Pi Day – the holiday celebrating the mathematical constant π (fun fact: it’s also the birthday of Albert Einstein!). Pi Day is celebrated a number of ways across the United States: discussions on the relevance of π, festivities honoring Einstein, and my personal favorite, excessive consumption of pie. But since I can’t give you all pie through the computer (though I wish I could – get on that technology, scientists!), in honor of Pi Day I present to...
Once again, women’s rights are under attack. The Medicaid Women’s Health Program, a health-care program for low-income women in Texas, is in danger of losing $35 million dollars of federal funding because Governor Rick Perry won't allow any of it to go to Planned Parenthood.  This program, which funds preventative care (including cancer screenings and contraception), currently serves 130,000 women by donating to many clinics in Texas--including Planned Parenthood. None of these clinics perform abortions, but Planned Parenthood does provide this service at other locations in...
On Monday night, comedian/actress Jane Lynch tried her hand at celebrity-interviewing when she filled in on Piers Morgan Tonight. Aside from making me wish she hosted a talk show on CNN instead of panders-to-women Piers Morgan, she interviewed Joan Rivers, and together (after Rivers admitted, of politicians, that she “hates them all”) they touched on certain issues in politics today. Specifically, the egregious amount of time politicians spend campaigning—as opposed to actually doing anything for the country—and naturally, the back-from-the-dead Republican agenda that seeks to...
