SXSW-featured musician and BUST favorite Zola Jesus will be on Conan O’Brien tonight! Huzzah. After a European tour earlier this year and a stint at the Guggenheim, ZJ will grace our television screens performing with Brooklyn hip-hop star El-P. The two will definitely be playing something from El-P’s newest solo album, Cancer 4 Cure. The rapper announced his on-air collaboration with ZJ via Twitter saying “tomorrow I'm on Conan with the squad and Zola Jesus. day after that la.” He then tweeted a picture...
As you’re probably aware, Title IX is turning forty this year, which means celebrating four decades of fighting the good fight against sex discrimination in education. Cheers to that! But, according to a new Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF) study, the fight drags on. The FMF study uncovered a rise in sex segregation in public K-12 schools after the Bush administration (surprised?) weakened Title IX restrictions against the practice in 2006. They found that over 1,000 public schools, mostly elementary and middle schools, have initiated single-sex...
Do you remember Project Runway’s season eight fan favorite and finalist Andy South? He was always calm, polite and drama-free as an out and proud gay man. Yesterday, Southiphong changed her Facebook gender from “male” to “female,” making her transition publicly official.   The 25-year-old designer largely went about her change quietly but has been uploading many gorgeous photos onto Facebook since March, according to the Daily Mail....
Despite the fact that she only just released the four-minute long trailer yesterday, Lana Del Rey’s video for “National Anthem,” featuring A$AP Rocky, was released this morning- and it's definitely interesting. Directed by Anthony Mandler, the video features Lana playing both Marilyn Monroe AND Jackie Onassis while A$AP plays JFK in what appears to be a live-action instagram reel. Whether it has you bleeding red, white, and blue or ready to move to Canada, nothing gets people in the mood for the 4th of July...
Having never lived in the suburbs, I view them as extremely foreign yet undeniably romanticized. But unique visions of life in suburbia come alive in Ssion's latest music video, "Earthquake," which was filmed in Kansas City, the hometown of the band's lead singer Cody Critcheloe. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of peeping a Ssion (pronounced shun) video or hearing one of their tunes, the best way I can think to describe them is as something between a cheesy queer discotheque...
