Since Best Coast debuted the first single, “The Only Place,” from their new album (also named The Only Place), I have been impatiently awaiting the full album (as in, listening to the single, non-stop, on repeat, for days on end). Like 2010’s Crazy For You, the new album puts Bethany Cosentino's sentimental and direct lyrics against a backdrop of waves and sun. And, thankfully, NPR’s First Listen is now streaming the whole album here! Produced by Jon Brion (creator of the beautiful score to Eternal Sunshine...
Save the Children has released their 13th annual Mothers' Index as part of the 2012 State of the World's Mothers report just in time for Mother's Day here in the states. Rolling Stone broke the news yesterday that Against Me! singer Tom Gabel is currently transitioning from male to female. The first openly transgendered rock star, Gabel plans to begin the process soon and will eventually take the name Laura Jane Grace. Gabel is speaking frankly about the tenuous position she is in, saying "I'm going to have embarrassing moments, and that won't be fun. But that's part of what talking to you is about - is hoping people will understand, and hoping they'll be fairly...
