Would your friends describe you as a mama's girl and/or Motherboy? Mother's Day is this Sunday, and if you've yet to find the perfect gift, look no further. Tell that mama how you feel with these cute Mother's Day cards from Flavorwire. Here are my personal faves.         And the (surprisingly raunchy) one you've been waiting for:     See the full set on Flavorwire, and check out their Arrested Development V-Day cards while you’re at it. Because it's never too late to tell that special someone they're hotter than a...
Women at the Western Wall wearing prayer shawls on April 12. Good news! A court in Jerusalem just ruled that women who wear prayer shawls at the Western Wall aren’t doing anything illegal. Before now, women would be arrested for wearing the shawls at the Wall, because that item of religious garb was considered exclusively menswear. Talk about gender policing. According to Time Magazine this is a really big win, as it sets the stage for more equality at this major holy site. Women still aren’t allowed to read...
When I was little, I'd constantly raid my mom’s closet to play dress up.  I loved draping myself in her fancy dresses, jewelry, and oversized shoes.  In honor of Mother’s Day this weekend, we’ve compiled a list of the top TV moms with the best outfits – the moms whose closets we'd have loved to raid. 1.   As a rather recent transplant to NYC, I learn new things every day. Today I learned that Coney Island hosts a parade of mermaids in the summertime! What’s more, these mermaid parades have been happening for the past 30 years! WHAT. So cool! It sounds like a slice of nirvana, like a little sliver of Burning Man (which I went to and loved and talk about whenever I can—but back to Mermaids!). What is this parade, you ask? It is a parade of mermaids—and so much...
Meet your newest art crush! Dilek Baykara is a New Jersey native now living and working in Brooklyn.  Her illustrations are part fairytale and part art nouveau, with intricate detailing and a few pop culture references tossed in. Some look like they belong in the childrens’ books of your dreams: flappers in feathers, celestial moonscapes, Bowie in the sky with diamonds. Check out these Gatsby-esque numbers:     If you like what you see and live nearby, girl’s got a solo show starting May 30th at N.Y.C.’s Superchief Gallery. West Coast ladies can see her...
