I have a new girl crush on a Miss Ebony Bones! I love everything about it! The drummer is Rat Scabies from The Damned and I’ll be damned if he isn’t still one tight ass drummer and after watching the live video below I think I have an actual sexual crush on him. They sound sort of like a combo of The Sugarcubes and Bow Wow Wow. Check out the outfits! I am so into the giant chains, not to mention the bones, the shoes, the tights, and the headpieces. Miss Bones sort of looks like Latoya Jackson spliced with Lil Kim and somehow I am not terrified. Check out this live show.
I just got back from a week of vaca yesterday! In the short time I was gone we got the proofs for the next issue in and it is going to be a real foxy one. Seeing things glossy and bright makes all the difference. Speaking of bright- the BUST neon sign that appeared in my absence keeps me smiling even though I am up to my tits in catch-up work. I may have just got back to work but here it is, the freakin' weekend baby! Tomorrow is the Coney Island Mermaid Parade and word around town is it may be the last. BUST rocked the parade as Mer-mods back in 2005.
I found myself a little forlorn this past Sunday, with no more episodes of the Sopranos to help ease me through the dreaded depression of those Sunday night, the-weekend's-over-beeyotch blues.  I tuned into HBO's new series, "Flight of the Conchords," figuring it was maybe going to be good since I'd just seen its star, the dorkily sexy Jemaine Clement, in a preview of the film Eagle vs. Shark. I was expecting to be mildly entertained, but instead, I fell in L-O-V-E.
Some of our favorite photographers are in a group show opening Thursday night in NYC. Come on down and say hi to a few of our most rockingest pals like Michael Lavine, Danielle St. Laurent, Edward Smith, Danny Clinch and Guzman.
Recently, while on a stroll through my neighborhood in Brooklyn, I stumbled upon the sweetest street pipe cozie! Might this be the clever work of the geniuses behind Houston based Knitta Please? A tribute from an East Coast admirer? Either way, it's totes cute and makes me want to knit handle grips for my trash cans.
Despite the gloomy weather in New York today there’s a rosy glow being cast over the Bust office by this completely awesome sign. The Bust-y pink piece of loveliness was sent to us by the totally charming and talented craftspeople at Brooklyn’s own Lite Brite Neon Studio and it’s the kind of surprise that couldn’t help but brighten up everyone’s day. I loved it from the start but when I found out that Neon signs are one of the most energy efficient light sources available and that it will last for decades, well my heart just about shone as bright as it.
Ever since the topsy-turvy, hella-dramatic ending that was Grey's Anatomy's finale...it was George that we all worried would get the boot. However, jokes on us guys. Months after the infamous scandal surrounding Grey's star, Isaiah Washington, it was made official that Dr. Preston Burke is no longer. ABC execs won't confirm whether their decision to ax Washington had anything to do with the negative press he brought to the show as a result of his anti-gay remarks made at the Golden Globes, but I'd be lying if I said I saw it coming.
Get ready for some heavy duty LADY DRAMA folks, the new bio pic about Piaf is out today and it is a must see! Marion Cotillards performance is stronger than an over-ripe Epoisse, and I mean that in a loving way. Even die hard fans will be amazed by the crazy life of La Mome, from her childhood years spent in the circus and then a whorehouse, to her later years as a full blown junkie. Go see this immediately and you will have "no regrets.
This past Tuesday night, BUST celebrated the release of our June/July issue the best way we know how- with a party! It was such a success that some of us are still recovering and finding bruises. BUSTies started lining up as early as 6:30 to get their hands on one of the 200 BUST goodie bags which disappeared in under just 10 minutes! First, our very own Emily Rems' punk band, Royal Pink, got things going right by completely packing the show area and getting people on their feet.
It's no surprise that BUST readers know how to get down. Last night's issue release party at Union Pool in Brooklyn was a smashing success full of fresh beats, sick jams, and lots o' BUSTy love. Today at HQ, we relied on a few key elements to get us through the day: too-good-to-be-true mac n cheese and Iggy Pop on repeat. Dawn will be blogging all about the party tomorrow but until then, feast your eyes and ears on this awesome snippet of gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She was a hit in the '30s and '40s, shakin' up the music world with her rockin' soul.
